It's National Volunteers Week!

While volunteering continues to evolve alongside modern life, formal volunteering remains a critical part of Australia’s social fabric. Across the country, millions of volunteers continue to support essential services and community organisations including emergency relief, aged care, food support, sport, education, health, environment, and community connection.

At Operation Flinders Foundation we have over 350 volunteers who are committed to transforming the lives of young people. Every person has an impact, no matter the task, role or passion.

So thank you to our volunteers!

Across Australia, volunteering occurs every day. In moments big and small, people are contributing to building connected, resilient, and inclusive communitie...

The team from Eudunda departed this morning from Yankaninna after 8 days on Exercise.

The team climbed mountains, learnt about bushcraft, mastered their skills in hutchie building and bonded as a well-working team. 🥾

Thank you to the volunteers who walked side by side with this fantastic team!

Last night we popped in to see the team from
Eudunda who were settling into Lions campsite after a big day climbing mountains and drying out their gear from some of the wet weather we have had!

They were in high spirits and setting up their hutchies like true experts! 🥾

Exercise 1 for 2026 has begun! 🥾

This year we celebrate 35 years of Operation Flinders! Yesterday we welcomed the first 3 teams to Yankaninna Station. But first, we welcomed our first-time volunteers to the program as well as our Peer Group Mentors (past-participants of the program).

We want to say a thank you to the volunteers who are taking time away from their friends, family and work in order to transform the lives of young people - THANK YOU!

Operation Flinders funding update- We are one of the lucky recipients of the CommBank Super Grant!

While 180 organisations throughout Australia received $20,000 through the Commonwealth Bank long-running annual Community Grants program, six were then selected by CommBank staff to also receive the extra $80,000 Super Grant – bringing the total funding injection to $100,000, including us!

Thanks CommBank!

It’s no exaggeration to suggest the Operation Flinders Foundation is saving the lives of young South Australians.

Last week 25 young people had the opportunity to stay at Yankaninna Station, the home of Operation Flinders, to complete environmental projects around the property and participate in activities. The Peer Group Mentor (PGM) garden was maintained, the worm farm was fed with kitchen scraps, and the creek boundary was rebuilt after the large amount of rain in the first part of the year. Next Steppers also had a chance to hike Yudlamoora at sunrise and complete a raft building challenge in the very full Arcoona Creek.

A fabulous time was had by all, and we are especially grateful to our large number of volunteers who helped make it possible.

READ ABOUT SARAH-JANE AND HER PASSION FOR OPERATION FLINDERS!

Sarah-Jane sat down with The Hills Wanderer and shared her volunteering story with the Foundation and what brings her back to Yankaninna Station.

Thank you SJ for your time and here's to 15 years of impacting the lives of young people!

Shine a spotlight on Hills residents working in the background to keep our community thriving.
