Today is State Budget Day, and as UDIA Chief Executive Liam Golding and Senior Manager of Policy and Advocacy Emma Green prepare to head into lock up, we’re making our views clear: The industry is ready to invest, build, and deliver housing across South Australia. What we need is a policy and funding environment that enables that delivery.

The State Budget is a genuine opportunity to respond to the housing crisis at the scale it demands. Keep your eyes on our channels today as we work to deliver our analysis on the Budget as it's handed down. In the meantime, you can read more about our views here: https://www.indailysa.com.au/news/opinion/2026/06/02/housing-crisis-demands-a-crisis-response-in-state-budget

With the South Australian State Budget dropping this week, we’re reflecting on Besa Deda’s presentation at the Urban Futures State Conference last month. As Chief Economist at William Buck, Besa’s session provided a masterfully nuanced breakdown of how shifts in geopolitics and global markets directly impact Australia’s economic outlook and local property and development.

Today, Besa's breakdown of RBA monetary policy, inflation expectations, and federal spending couldn't be more relevant. As the state looks to balance structural pressures against unprecedented growth opportunities, all eyes will be on how this week's budget aligns to support housing supply, infrastructure delivery, and ongoing economic momentum.

Thank you to Besa for your valuable insights, thank you to Colliers for sponsoring the session and thank you to everyone who joined the conversation!

A record 13,500 homes were completed in South Australia last year, but how do we keep that momentum going?

As the Hon Nick Champion MP opened the Urban Futures State Conference earlier this month, the focus was on speeding up development, improving transparency, and strengthening public–private collaboration.

David Reynolds, Craig Holden and Peter Gatsios then shared practical insights into the policy, infrastructure and planning levers that can help accelerate progress.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at yesterday’s Lunch & Learn session unpacking the upcoming changes to anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing (AML/CTF) regulations with AUSTRAC.

Starting from July 1 2026, these reforms will be extended to property developers, and this session was designed to give UDIA members a clearer sense of what’s changing and how to prepare.

The key takeaway? Don’t leave preparation to the last minute. Ensure your business is ready for the change:
1. Review whether your business activities fall under the new regulations
2. Understand how the rules interact with real estate agents, lawyers and conveyancers
3. Put in place the systems you need to remain compliant.

You can learn more about these changes on the AUSTRAC website 👉 https://loom.ly/2U8LszU

Thank you to AUSTRAC for sharing practical insights and leading a valuable conversation with our members.
