MONOSCENES INTENSIVE: wrap up

Today we learned about relationships, status, commitment, emotional truth, and what happens when you shoot your scene partner in the face at a remote cabin.

Along the way there were cherry trees felled, Monopoly rivalries escalated, a genuinely beautiful father-daughter relationship emerged, and Tierney met an untimely end.

A successful day of Monoscenes by any measure.

Huge thanks to Dane and everyone who spent the day diving deep into scenes.

And if you’re thinking, “I could use a little more Dane in my life,” you’re in luck. There are still a few spots left in Long Form to Show.
promises about the murder rate, but the scene work will be excellent.

MONOSCENES INTENSIVE TOMORROW!
When the Monoscenes course sold out y’all whined and complained so much that Dane has agreed to come back and run it again as an intensive.

Tomorrow’s Monoscene Intensive is your chance to explore a format where scenes are allowed to breathe, characters get to stick around, and nobody swoops in with an edit just as things get interesting.
One location. Real time. Endless possibilities.

Every improvisor has a character they keep accidentally playing.

Over
And
Over
And
Over
This course is about finding a few more.

Join Cathy and Lewis for seven weeks of exploring bold, memorable, fully realised characters that can thrive in anything from a two-minute game to a full-length show.

Funny characters. Awkward characters. Confident characters. Characters with terrible ideas and excellent intentions.

If you love disappearing into someone else for a while, this might be your new favourite course.

Term 3 bookings are live and Long Form Class to Show is back for improvisors ready to hit the stage.

This is not just a class.
It’s a rehearsal room, a creative process, and a performance rolled into one.

Across seven weeks, you’ll work together to develop an original long form impro show from the ground up. You’ll refine your long form skills, sharpen your ensemble work, explore format, structure, and storytelling, and build a performance ready for a live audience.

This course is designed for experienced improvisors wanting to push beyond scenes and games into sustained worlds, connected narratives, and compelling ensemble driven theatre.

You’ll experiment.
Refine.
Cut what doesn’t work.
Discover what does.
And shape a full impro show together in real time.

Perfect for improvisors wanting:
More advanced long form training
Stronger ensemble and group mind skills
Experience developing original impro formats

Term 3 bookings are live and Building Character is here for improvisors ready to go deeper.

Anyone can put on a funny voice.
This course is about creating characters that actually live.

Characters with physicality.
Characters with instincts.
Characters that survive beyond the first joke and keep delivering whether you are in short form chaos or long form storytelling.

Across seven weeks, Building Character explores character creation through behaviour, impulse, physicality, relationships, and pressure before worrying about plot or clever choices.

You’ll steal from real people politely.
Borrow from animals.
Transform objects.
Push status and stakes.
Discover how your character moves through the world and what happens when the world pushes back.

Perfect for improvisors wanting:
Stronger and more consistent characters
Better physicality and stage presence
Tools for both short form and long form impro
Characters that can evolve and deepen over time
Practical techniques you can return to again and again

By the end of the course, you’ll walk away with repeatable methods for building characters quickly.

Taught by Cathy and Lewis.

Term 2 was a blast, and this week the OTF community came out to celebrate the term that had been at the Hymn Bar.

One moment we had warring oracles delivering prophecies with the intensity of a Greek tragedy, the next we had Spice Girls energy tearing through the room like it was 1997 from our Intro class.

Make a Move taught us that egg sandwiches are not to be trusted. Ever.

Monoscenes gave us forgotten birthdays, lonely lighthouses and a deeply concerning number of windows.

Make a Scene delivered frisky giraffes, monkey napping, and the kind of choices that make impro either genius or deeply alarming. Sometimes both.

It was a night full of huge laughs, questionable decisions, committed performers, excellent gin, and the kind of community that reminds us why we keep coming back to the stage.

Massive love to all our students who spent the term throwing themselves into the work, taking risks, and making us laugh until it hurt.

‘Again!’

Term 3 bookings are live!
don’t miss your chance to be part of our next student showcase.
