Friends of Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary FAIBS Do you have hopes and aspirations for the new Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary? Join us in charting a course for the evolution of this special refuge.

Join us in charting a course for the evolution of this special refuge for migratory shorebirds and so much other biodiversity. Friends of the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary (FAIBS) is a group of community members interested in the well-being of birds that live along the Samphire Coast, in particular the migratory shorebirds that spend summer here fattening up before flying to the Northern H

emisphere to breed. FAIBS aims to hold community events on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Events include planting, clean-up and more, along with morning tea and of course, some bird-watching! To become a financial member there is an annual fee of $10
This will give you access to free training, member priority to events and more. However, you do not have to be a financial member to come to our community events. Got any questions? Email: Anna or Mary-Ann at [email protected]

šŸ“£FREE WORKSHOP AT GOOLWA SOUTH, SA, 18 DEC!

The Coorong or 'Yarluwar Ruwe' is Ngarrindjeri country and is an incredibly special place for wildlife. It is recognised as an internationally important wetland for both migratory and resident shorebirds and many species of birds are threatened with extinction and need our help to survive.

Come and learn about Hooded Plovers, Fairy Terns & other beach-nesting birds, their amazing lives on the sand and what we can do to help them. Discover how Migratory Shorebirds like the Bar-tailed Godwit make incredible migrations from Australia to the Arctic tundra each year to breed, the threats that they face and how to identify them.

This two part workshop is being delivered by BirdLife Australia as part of the 'Shorebird and Wetland Habitat Project', which is funded by the Australian Government and implemented by the Government of South Australia, and the ā€˜Strengthening shorebird protection in the Coorong Project’ which is supported by the Limestone Coast Landscape Board Grassroots Grants program and funded by the regional landscape levy.

We acknowledge the Ngarrindjeri people, the Traditional Custodians of the land and surrounding waters where our research and conservation work is undertaken and value their knowledge and contribution to these projects.

Lunch will be provided, please let us know of any dietary requirements when making your booking.

If you’re in the Adelaide region, we have a FREE Introduction to Migratory Shorebirds Workshop on Saturday 6th Dec!

Did you know that over 15,000 migratory shorebirds leave their breeding grounds and fly thousands of kilometers to visit Adelaide each summer? The visitors include pocket sized Red-necked Stints and giant Eastern Curlews. They join our resident shorebirds who use our beaches and wetlands to raise their young. If you are curious about shorebirds, this workshop is for you!

BirdLife Australia and Green Adelaide invite you to learn about these amazing birds and see them feeding and roosting along the shore at St Kilda, SA.
