The Whistleblower Justice Fund is a national campaign to ensure whistleblowers are protected, not prosecuted. The campaign has been set up by former Senator Rex Patrick to help secure desperately overdue whistleblower protection reforms and fight for the rights of Australian whistleblowers facing court action under existing broken laws. A strong step forward in Parliament this week.

WJF was proud to help coordinate the launch of the Parliamentary Friends of Whistleblowers, a new forum for MPs and Senators from across the political spectrum to engage on the importance of whistleblowing and stronger protections for people who speak up.

We were especially pleased to arrange a keynote from award-winning ABC journalist Adele Ferguson AM, who spoke about the critical role whistleblowers play in public interest journalism. WJF founder and former senator Rex Patrick also spoke, alongside advocates and experts from across the sector.

A big win for transparency today.

The Albanese Government has dumped its own FOI secrecy bill after months of sustained public and political pressure. WJF is proud to have played a central role in helping make the cost of this Bill impossible for Labor to ignore.

This win is proof that organised public pressure works. We need to continue the fight to strengthen – not weaken – Australia's FOI system under this and future governments.

The Albanese Government is trying to ram through laws to make government even more secretive. It's the biggest attack on transparency in decades.

The good news? The FOI Amendment Bill has no friends.

It's now up to us to ensure this bill is blocked in the Senate, with a vote likely next year.

Australia’s leading integrity groups have united against the Government’s proposed changed to FOI laws.

The FOI Amendment Bill 2025 is the biggest rollback of transparency in decades. It would gut the public’s right to know and make government more secret, not less.

We’re calling for the Bill to be withdrawn immediately and replaced with an independent and comprehensive review of our FOI system that aims to strengthen it, not weaken it.

Today, outside court and across the country, people stood in solidarity with tax office whistleblower Richard Boyle.

This morning, Whistleblower Justice Fund founder, Rex Patrick, delivered a powerful message on behalf of Australians: “Thank you, Richard Boyle.”

Among those who rallied in support of Richard were corruption whistleblower Sharon Kelsey, Robert Simms MLC, Jodie Sard from Amnesty International Australia, and Kieran Pender of the Human Rights Law Centre.

We're calling on the Albanese Government to stop the war on whistleblowers, fix the laws, and protect truth tellers like Richard.

A judge has sentenced tax office whistleblower Richard Boyle to a 12 month good behaviour bond with no criminal conviction. While it is a welcome outcome, Richard's prosecution remains a grave injustice that should never have happened.

Richard Boyle blew the whistle on unethical conduct at the Australian Tax Office, helping to protect small businesses and vulnerable people. Despite being vindicated, Richard and his family have suffered for almost a decade as the Commonwealth sought to put him behind bars for his actions.

Richard Boyle is a hero and we thank him for making Australia a better place. We call on the Albanese Government to urgently fix the broken laws meant to protect whistleblowers like Richard, so this never happens again.

Whistleblowers should be protected, not prosecuted.

Robodebt whistleblower Jeannie-Marie Blake is calling for a Whistleblower Protection Authority to better protect those who speak out in the public interest.

Robodebt whistleblower Jeannie-Marie Blake sacrificed everything to speak out against the unlawful scheme.

Whistleblowers protect us. We should protect them.

The Senate inquiry into a bill for a Whistleblower Protection Authority heard evidence today from whistleblowers, journalists, and experts, calling for urgent reform.

Former senator Rex Patrick is calling on the government to establish a whistleblower protection authority.

Experts support it. The public want it. We just need political will.

Whistleblowers help expose corruption and wrongdoing, sometimes saving society hundreds of millions of dollars. But those who speak out risk a huge personal cost.

Former senator Rex Patrick appeared before a Parliamentary inquiry today, making the case for a whistleblower protection authority to better protect those who speak out.

We're calling on the Albanese Government to urgently fix the broken laws and better protect whistleblowers.

Today, whistleblowers, journalists, and experts are giving evidence to a Senate inquiry on why Australia should establish a whistleblower protection authority.

Australia desperately needs stronger whistleblower protections – without them, whistleblowers continue to face dire consequences, including prison, for speaking out against wrongdoing and corruption.

Professor Peter Greste from the Alliance for Journalists' Freedom spoke to ABC this morning about the need for action.
