June is International Aphasia Awareness Month!

❓Did you know that approximately 140,000 people in Australia live with aphasia?

🗣️ Aphasia is a communication difficulty that occurs when the language areas of the brain are damaged, which is most often caused by various types of acquired brain injury such as stroke, TBI, and even brain tumour.

Stay tuned this month as we share valuable information and resources to support those living with aphasia!

As part of National Reconciliation Week, BISA’s RAP Committee attended the Reconciliation in the West event at Tauondi Aboriginal College yesterday!

We had a fantastic day connecting with the community, sharing information and resources about the brain, and putting people’s memory skills to the test with our recall game 🧠

It was also wonderful to experience the talented artists and performers who brought so much energy and culture to the event, and to meet so many people from across the community throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us!

May 27 to June 3 is annually recognised as National Reconciliation Week 🍃

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways.

The 2026 National Reconciliation Week theme, All In, is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day - not just during this week, but through ongoing learning, listening, respect and action.

At Brain Injury SA, we are on a journey to create cultural safety for all individuals living life with acquired brain injury and we recognise National Reconciliation Week as an important part of that journey.

May 26 is National Sorry Day.

This year marks 29 years since the Bringing Them Home report was tabled in parliament in 1997, shining a light on the devastating impact of the Stolen Generations policies.

The national theme for 2026 is From Sorry to Action - a call for governments to move beyond words and take concrete, measurable steps that make a real difference within the lifetimes of survivors.

Join us in recognising this important day, reflecting on our shared history, and moving forward together in healing.
