On 7th August, Her Excellency, the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governer of South Australia, graciously hosted those of us who work, volunteer, and contribute to the Australia Day Council of South Australia, as a gesture of appreciation for our involvement. The event brought together representatives from various community groups to celebrate partnerships that promoted Australia Day and strengthened community cohesion. The Adelaide Taiwanese Cultural Association (ATCA) was invited to represent Taiwan at the event, interacting with other multicultural groups and sharing experiences in community engagement and cultural promotion.
Her Excellency, emphasised that Australia is of“many faces, many voices, and many perspectives” and reiterated the importance of walking together with First Nations peoples, highlighting the annual “Mourning in the Morning” and smoke cleansing ceremony held along the Karrawirra Parri River as reminders for the public to approach history and reconciliation with understanding, learning, and respect.
Government House further noted that this year’s “Respecting Country Parade” in Adelaide attracted over 2,000 volunteers and participation from 49 multicultural groups, demonstrating inclusiveness and unity in South Australian society. ATCA is proud to stand alongside other South Australian community groups in creating a welcoming environment for both local and newly arrived Taiwanese, while building friendships across cultures. Looking ahead, ATCA will continue to celebrate and share Taiwanese culture, and strengthen mutual understanding through community events and volunteer service.
ATCA representatives said that the gathering at Government House was not only recognition of the spirit of volunteerism, but also an opportunity for the Taiwanese community to see its role and value within a diverse society. ATCA is incredibly honored to represent Taiwan and will continue to support inclusiveness and mutual assistance in South Australia through our actions, allowing more people to witness Taiwan’s passion, professionalism, and cultural confidence.
This event built further bridges for dialogue between Taiwanese and Australian communities. ATCA also welcomes friends who are interested in volunteer work and cultural exchange to join in, working hand in hand with multicultural partners to create a stronger sense of belonging in South Australian society.
