Meet Lizzie 👋 She's a 4th-year Veterinary Science student at Charles Sturt University and she's gearing up to run the Sydney Marathon for Sophie’s Legacy at the end of this month.

"I’ve seen firsthand how important support can be, and I’ve been fortunate to have it when I’ve needed it. Not everyone does, and no one should have to walk this path alone. I’m running to help create a future where veterinary professionals are supported, valued, and never alone."

Who is free Sunday, September 20? Garry Putland and his new knees need company!

Garry’s raising money for Sophie’s Legacy in this year’s City-Bay Fun Run.

Signed up for the 12km, he’s walking double the length of what he did in 2024.

His fundraising target is $2500, so he’s looking for generous supporters as well as people to chat with along the way.

ICYMI: Here is the initial on-air chat that sparked a flurry of media activity a week ago today for Sophie’s dad, Garry Putland, regarding veterinary students missing out on prac payments.

How good is this? A We’re Only Human Poster for those working in the equine space.

Randlab made sure a few copies were on display at the conference last week. If you work in this space and would like one for your practice, keep an eye out for your local rep. They have some at the ready.

Many thanks to James Meyer, who studied with Sophie, for driving this initiative. Like us, he believes that all veterinary staff deserve respect – from the front desk to the nurses, techs, vets and everyone in between.

ICYMI: Last night, Sophie's dad Garry Putland spoke on Channel 9 about his disappointment that once again veterinary students have been overlooked by the government for prac payment.

There is a crisis in the veterinary industry and we know that financial pressures can start early and have a negative impact on mental health.

We are standing up for vets who have AGAIN been left off a newly expanded list of allied health roles to receive paid prac assistance.

In fact, we are inviting Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to meet with us while he is currently in Adelaide, to discuss the facts around veterinarian shortages and the mental health crisis gripping the industry.

🚨BREAKING NEWS 🚨Sophie’s Legacy is calling on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to meet with Garry Putland while he is in Adelaide, and add veterinarians to the expanded list of professions that will get paid prac assistance. Veterinarians have for the second time been left off this list and Sophie’s Legacy is advocating for that to be changed.
