Share Your Experience: Bereavement Leave Reform

TCF Australia is advocating for a reform to increase bereavement leave from 2 days to 10 days for parents who have lost a child.

As part of this process, we are documenting ongoing case studies of bereaved parents in South Australia to contribute to the submission.

We would greatly value your input. Please email us at [email protected] and share your experience:

How supportive were your employer and colleagues?
Did you feel you could continue at work?
Were you given appropriate support, or left to manage on your own?
What would have helped you most during that time?

Your experiences will help shape important workplace reforms for bereaved parents.

All responses will be treated with respect and confidentiality.

All members are warmly welcome to attend. As always, this will be a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space to share, listen, or simply be present with others who understand.

We look forward to being together and supporting one another during this time.

As we move through the Christmas and New Year season, we want to reach out to you with care and deep understanding.

For many bereaved parents, this time of year can feel especially heavy. The world around us can feel louder, busier and full of expectations that don’t always match how our hearts feel. Traditions may feel painful, empty, or simply very different now — and that’s okay.

There is no “right” way to get through this season. You may choose to participate in celebrations, to step back from them, or to take things one moment at a time. However this period looks for you is valid. Please be gentle with yourselves and know that it is okay to do only what feels manageable.

Please remember that you are not alone. You are part of a community of parents who truly understand the depth of love, loss and longing that comes with missing a child. If you need support over the Christmas or New Year period, TCFSA is here for you — whether through connection, support groups, or simply knowing others are holding you and your child in their hearts.

We hold you and your children close in our thoughts during this season and send our deepest compassion to you and your families.
