Say hello to Mary, one of the volunteers at Repair Café Marino!

We're continuing our series introducing the community groups and projects that make up Sustainable Communities SA.

At Repair Café Marino, local volunteers help community members repair broken items for free, household electrical items, wooden and general repairs, mending clothes, giving bikes a bit of maintenance and sharpening garden tools. It's all about sharing practical skills, extending the life of useful things and keeping waste out of landfill. 🔧♻️

You can even chat with volunteers about making the switch from gas to electric in your home—or the move to an electric vehicle. ⚡

Repair Café Marino is also looking for skilled volunteers who'd like to help with repairs.

What’s happening in our community this July?

We’re starting a new series introducing the community groups and projects that make up Sustainable Communities SA.

At Repair Café Campbelltown, local volunteers help community members repair broken items for free—sharing practical skills, extending the life of useful things and keeping waste out of landfill. 🔧♻️

📍 Campbelltown Memorial Oval, Paradise
📅 Second Sunday of each month, except May and December
🕤 9:30 am–1:30 pm

The story so far…

Adopt A Spot Scheme is one of the community groups connected with Sustainable Communities SA, and its journey shows the power of long-term, community-led action.

Launched at Christies Beach in March 2018 by co-founders Chris Lemar and Carly Lynch, together with Katrine Hildyard MP, the scheme has grown into an incredible collective effort to care for local places and reduce debris in our environment.

By the end of 2025, Adopt A Spot had achieved:

15.4k cleans
28.6 tonnes of debris removed
513.6k cigarette butts collected
35.7k lids collected
29.7k volunteer hours
$1.5 million in estimated volunteer value
2.9k students reached

These figures represent seven calendar years of commitment from volunteers, schools and community members who continue to show up, take action and make a real difference.

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in Adopt A Spot Scheme. What an inspiring milestone for the SCSA community.

The statistics from our busy June event are now available. 👏🏽

The statistics from our busy June event are now available.
We saw
- 49 People with 74 items including 27 textile & 20 mechanical
- 62 items weighing 100 kg were fixed making 84% fixed

Thank you to everyone who has attended events or supported us from behind the scenes.

Our thanks also to Campbelltown City Council (SA) and Sustainable Communities SA Inc.c. for their support with venue and auspicing and the Magill Rotary Market who share our venue for most events.

We will be back for our next event-on Sunday July 12th

Our 2026 Annual General Meeting, held at the end of May, was a wonderful opportunity to bring our Sustainable Communities network together.

It was an evening of sharing ideas, reflecting on what we've achieved over the past year, discussing future priorities, welcoming new initiatives, and strengthening the connections that make our community so special.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, contributed to the discussions, and continues to dedicate their time, knowledge, and passion to building more sustainable communities across South Australia.

We're excited about what lies ahead and look forward to another year of collaboration, learning, and positive impact. 🌱

Hey neighbours, we are so excited to say we have a limited supply of Verge Garden Plant Starter Packs to give to residents:

🏡 living in Pasadena and St Marys.
🧤🪏💦 Will maintain their verge garden by planting, weeding, watering and pruning.

We put together 6 verge friendly pot luck plants, that may include native grasses, groundcovers and small bushes that fit within the City of Mitcham verge plant guidelines. These are a good Starter Pack as you begin your verge garden adventure!

Volunteers have been growing these plants in backyards and we would love to see our little plants in your new verge garden! We know some of you will forge ahead all on your own with these plants, while others might like a hand and we might be able to work with you to get your garden established.

Our Verge Project is made possible with a Green Adelaide Grassroots Grant, native seed and cutting donations, volunteers who grow, admin and plan together. Join in!
