The Cabaret Fringe Festival is an open-access arts festival held annually each June in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 2008 by brothers Paul and Adam Boylon, the festival provides an affordable platform for cabaret artists to reach audiences old and new, and allows audiences the opportunity to experience the diversity of expression that makes cabaret such a popular and accessible art-form. F

rom humble beginnings at cabaret club La Bohème, the Cabaret Fringe Festival now sees dozens of acts performing at venues all around Adelaide. Featuring the best of home-grown and national talent side by side, the festival represents the breadth of artistic expression in Cabaret in Australia. The festival promotes accessible pathways for audiences to experience emerging and established cabaret artists, enables venues and artists to work collaboratively and grow their audiences and build a reputation within the cabaret and arts scene, and enables income-generating opportunities for
artists.

Oh what a night!

Last weekend we fired up the third CabLive show in our Holden Street Theatres series, supported by City Of Charles Sturt.

This was the last one in the series, but CabLive will continue next month, at Diverse-City on Gouger Street.

A huge thank you to our Host, David Gauci, and pianist, Carol Young, for their fantastic work in bringing our CabLive concept to life and making all three events so enjoyable.

CabLive provides valuable stage experience for performers. There’s no rehearsal before the show. Artists get up from the audience and step up on stage into the spotlight. The music starts, and you’re on! This style of impromptu performance encourages spontaneity, and builds nerve and adaptability. Whatever happens, happens. It’s all part of the show.

Last week’s artist line-up included songwriters, creators of musicals and self-accompanists, as well as those accompanied by Carol on piano. There was a wide variety of song choices. And it’s clear that there are some new cabaret shows being developed.
