Statement from the Adelaide Sisters Association
Regarding the Attack on the Islamic Centre of San Diego
19 May 2026
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.
The Adelaide Sisters Association extends our deepest condolences to the families of the 3 martyrs and their families, to the wounded, and to the entire San Diego Muslim community. Our hearts are with you.
Three men were killed in their place of worship whilst protecting others. Three souls. Three families forever changed. They are not statistics. They are not a news cycle. The pain felt in San Diego is felt across every Muslim community in Australia and around the world. When one part of this body grieves, we all grieve.
Allah (SWT) reminds us in Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:32): “Whoever takes a life, it will be as if they killed all of humanity.” What was taken in San Diego was not just three lives. It was an attack on all of us.
We must be honest about what creates these conditions. When political leaders and media outlets across the world continue to platform racist anti-immigration and Islamophobic propaganda they enable this terrorism & violence.
This is not unique to the USA.. Here at home, since 7 October 2023, reports to the Islamophobia Register Australia surged by 649%. In South Australia, acts of abuse, intimidation and discrimination continue to rise and despite the mounting evidence, our government fails to act.
This is not neglect. This is a choice. And choices have consequences.
We refuse to grieve in silence. We call on our government and media to act; not with statements after tragedies, but with real, sustained commitment to the safety of Muslim communities here and everywhere.
Together we must stand against hate, against racism, against violence and against Islamophobia. We must be loud in the face of injustice until our calls are no longer ignored.
May Allah (SWT) grant the martyrs the highest ranks in Jannah, wrap their families in His infinite mercy, and grant the community and our entire Ummah steadfastness in these painful times. آمين
