Big thanks to Friends of the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide volunteer Laura for the tour of the Adelaide Botanic Garden this morning. A small group of us really enjoyed the tour. We all explored areas we had never seen or always wanted to learn more about. The Australian Forest, the Eremophila garden, Mallee section and the threatened plant seed orchard were part of the walk. We could have seen more, so perhaps that's another outing together.

Organising was easy with excellent communication from The Friends and so much knowledge and passion to share. Laura's personal experience of propagating native orchids was a real treat to learn about.

Halloween is becoming more popular every year but let's make fake spider web a thing of the past. Don't put it up and instead choose decorations that are a bit friendlier to birds. And why not take the opportunity to learn more about spiders, they're part of our community too!

This Halloween, the scariest thing might not be ghosts or goblins… it could be fake spider webs.

Made from artificial fibres, these decorations can trap and injure native wildlife, including birds, bats, lizards and small mammals, sometimes with tragic consequences.

If you’re decorating this year, please choose options that are safe for our environment and local animals.
