The St Vincent de Paul Society (SA) has been an integral part of the South Australian community since 1884. Providing assistance throughout metropolitan and regional SA, Vinnies is committed to assisting people experiencing disadvantage with a hand up through a focus on food, clothing and shelter. Supported by 2,500 volunteers, Vinnies’ key service is its unique Vinnies Assistance program, which p

rovides compassionate support to people in their homes or through Vinnies centres across the State. Support offered through this service includes food, clothing, furniture and emergency financial assistance, with around 50,000 South Australians supported each year. Vinnies’ other services include the iconic Fred’s Vans, providing 40,000 meals from 10 locations across the State; 24-hour crisis accommodation for men, women and children; the Open Door program which takes a preventative approach to homelessness; and the Vinnies Refugee & Asylum Seeker Service which assists asylum seekers and refugees who have fled war, persecution and significant injustice. The good works of Vinnies are supported by donations from the community and corporate partners, together with sales from Vinnies shops. There are currently 34 shops across SA providing quality and vintage second hand clothing, homewares and accessories. Along with practical support, Vinnies offers a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to supporting people in need, and we advocate on behalf of those who do not have a voice on issues such as the need for more affordable housing; the inadequacy of social security payments; refugee and asylum seeker policy and more

We think this is a lovely gesture from our team at Vinnies Victor Harbor, who have donated a WWII great coat to Victor Harbor RSL.

How wonderful is that?

This greatcoat had the name 'Ralph Swan' on it, and VHRSL Historian Ian Milne was able to trace Mr Swan, who served in 2AIF (Australian Imperial Force).

You can find out more about Mr Swan's service in the post below from Victor Harbor RSL.

Well done Vinnies Victor Harbor, we are proud of your support of your local RSL.

We're sad to share that Saturday 29 August will be the last day of trading at our much-loved Vinnies Port Adelaide.

The decision to close Vinnies Port Adelaide has not been an easy one. The store has been a valued and longstanding presence within the community; supporting the people we help, connecting them with goods and services, and assisting our Society members in their work.

The contribution of the team over many years is deeply appreciated and will not be forgotten.

Vinnies has been at its current location since 2019 and has been an extension of the community for decades.

While we're saddened to say goodbye to a shop that has given so much back and helped support thousands of South Australians doing it tough, we're also incredibly grateful.

Grateful for every staff member, volunteer, donor and customer who helped make Vinnies Port Adelaide a hub for all things good.

So, if you're near Vinnies Port Adelaide before closing time on Saturday, please stop by and make a final purchase, say thank you to the team, and snap up one final bargain.

Port Adelaide, we will remember you with fond hearts and work to build on the legacy created within your walls and by your incredibly close-knit team of volunteers and staff.

The heart of Vinnies Port Adelaide won’t be completely gone; you’ll be able to catch up several Port Adelaide volunteers and shop manager, Julie, who are making the move to Vinnies Enfield!

We can’t wait to see your friendly faces at Vinnies SA’s newest shop.

Or if you'd prefer, Vinnies at Taperoo is just around the corner for your Vinnies fix!

Are you getting ready for a spring clean, or just decluttering?

If so, our Vinnies SA stores would love to take your quality donations, particularly homewares, knick knacks, crockery and bric-a-brac.

Our stores need regular donors like you to keep our shelves full, allowing us to raise much-needed funds to support people doing it tough across South Australia.

If you're in the middle of a declutter, or have been putting off delivering that bag of items in your boot, please stop by Vinnies soon.

Thank you for your support. 💙

Did you know your donations support our Vinnies Men's Crisis Centre, our Vinnies Women's Crisis Centre, our Refugee and Asylum Seeker Service, and also enable thousands of acts of assistance by our members across South Australia, ranging from fuel assistance to food and clothing.

Scratching your head or pulling your hair out while rifling through your cupboard and book shelves ahead of Book Week?

Vinnies SA can help!

This week, we'll be sharing some lovely, stress-relieving (for you) and exciting (for the kids) photos from our stores, who are making Book Week easy.

Today's parent rescue comes to you courtesy of Vinnies Campbelltown!

There are the books, and there are the costumes! All right there.

You're welcome. 💙

P.S: Even if there isn't a dedicated display, we do have books and we do have shelves and hangers full of clothes, so don't be deterred. ☺️

As National Youth Volunteer Week comes to an end, we wanted to call out our youngest vollies - our amazing Mini Vinnies!

Every week of every year, our Mini Vinnies are there quietly (sometimes) making a difference in their schools, communities, and beyond.

In shows of kindness and compassion that inspire us, they give their time, energy, and creativity to support others through fundraisers, donation drives, awareness campaigns, community events, and acts of service.

They embrace opportunities to learn about social justice, show compassion, and put their values into action - and their commitment to helping others reminds us that you are never too young to make a positive impact.

Thank you to all our Mini Vinnies members for your kindness, generosity, and dedication to creating a more just and compassionate world. ✨

You may be small, but you are mighty!

In our pictures, you can see the kind of guided activities our Mini Vinnies take part in to help them build their compassion and ability to take action. 💙
