Growing up, Yaro believed every story had already been written. But life has shown her that while circumstances can change, it can also reveal a strength we never knew we had.

“It has not always been easy, but every challenge has taught me resilience, gratitude and the importance of a positive attitude," she said.

“Junction has helped me feel at home, settle into a simpler life and look forward with hope. When I look back, I recognise how difficult the journey has been, but I also look ahead knowing that every person deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, safety and joy."

Last week, Yaro (pictured below) celebrated World Refugee Day alongside her neighbours at Churchill Road.

On the menu for the shared lunch were traditional Venezuelan dishes such as Pabellón Criollo and Cachapas, alongside Bosnian favourites including pitas, burek, and a selection of other sweet and savoury treats.

Our NAIDOC community celebration is back for 2026! Join us on July 16 at Glandore Community Centre for a FREE celebration of First Nations' art and culture.

Held across the country from 5-12 July 2026, NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's event will feature:

- Welcome to Country + Smoking Ceremony (11:30am)
- Dance performance (11:40am)
- Free nibbles and sausage sizzle
- Free hot and cold drinks
- Free exhibitor stalls from our partners
- Free art workshop
- First Nations' stalls featuring art and other goods to purchase
- A very special launch

Bronwyn had long been in the mindset of “needing to be ready to leave.” After couch surfing for the past few years, the 19-year-old has now found stable and secure housing through the Fleurieu Accommodation Project, a community-funded housing model which is now attracting national interest.

Read how this “uncomplicated concept” led by Junction in collaboration with the Fleurieu Community Foundation, Rotary Club of Victor Harbor, Community Bank Fleurieu, Zonta Club Fleurieu Peninsula and Elders Real Estate has, and continues to evolve, to meet community need.

A tourist hotspot with skyrocketing rents, low rental vacancies and a dearth of public housing, has found a way to help find homes for those who can't afford to live in their own region.

Every Tuesday morning, Junction resident Kym steps out with the Mitchell Park Walking Group at MarionLIFE Community Services Inc, falling easily into step with familiar faces, shared laughs, and a routine that keeps him grounded.

However, 24 years ago, Kym was taking steps down a very different path.

From addiction and isolation to connection and purpose, Kym’s story is a powerful reminder that change doesn’t happen all at once, it starts with one small step.

This Men’s Health Week, he’s sharing what helped him turn his life around and why finding community made all the difference.

A very special rainbow appeared at Tonsley this morning in celebration of Pride Month! 🌈

Throughout June, Junction staff are embracing rainbow colours and decorations to show their support for our LGBTQIA+ community.

Pride Month also recognises a significant moment in history - honouring the courage of those involved in the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which helped drive lasting change for LGBTQIA+ rights.

Join us this Pride Month as we continue to celebrate diversity, build understanding, and foster a culture where everyone feels welcome and valued.

‘All In’ isn’t just a theme for a week, it’s something we’re continuing to step into every day.

During Reconciliation Week 2026, our teams and communities connected through a range of experiences, at the National Reconciliation Breakfast, through a shared art piece by the Hackham Community Centre playgroup, during a staff yarning session, and a community-led gathering at Kangaroo Island Community Centre which had a record of 70 attendees enjoying the talented youth band singing 'Beds are Burning.'

Our Lived Experience Community Advisory Team also explored allyship in practice, developing reflections and tips we’re looking forward to sharing.

Across these moments, a clear thread emerged, the importance of listening, building trust, and showing up as genuine allies. Not just in intent, but in action, by strengthening relationships, backing community voices, and embedding cultural understanding into our work.

While the week has wrapped, there is more to come, and something big we’re excited to share with you soon!

A cuppa, a catch-up and a good cause brought Oaklands Park locals together last week for their annual Cancer Council Australia 'Biggest Morning Tea.'

The 'OPALS' group (pictured) once again showed their generosity and community spirit, this year raising an incredible $396 during their weekly post-walk catch-up. All to help fund life-saving support for those impacted by cancer.
