As we wrap up the working week, we thought we’d share the story of someone we’re incredibly proud to call a friend and long-term supporter of the Foundation, Quinton Ewer to reflect on his experience at the 130th Boston Marathon.

What began as a personal challenge became something much bigger. From welcoming more than 100 guests to our pre-marathon fundraiser at Ambra Spirits to crossing the finish line in Boston, Quinton’s efforts helped raise $16,153.20, enough to fund two years of tuition support.

Boston is one of the world’s most iconic marathons, and Quinton described the atmosphere as electric, with crowds lining the course and support at every turn. It was an experience unlike any other and one he will never forget.

After 42.2 kilometres, tackling the famous Heartbreak Hill and fighting through a hammy cramp in the closing stages, he crossed the finish line in 3:00:49.

Thank you to everyone who supported Quinton and helped see him across the finish line. And to Quinton himself, thank you for every training session, every early morning, every kilometre, and for choosing to turn a personal challenge into something much bigger. 👏 🎊

“It wasn’t just financial support from Sliding Doors but also a message of ‘We believe in you.’ And that belief carried me further than money ever could.” – Jess Tresidder

On Friday, 19 June at Adelaide Oval, Jess will join us for the live Scholar Q&A at Opening Opportunities 2026. She’ll share how educational support gave her “the gift of time… and time changed everything. Time to think bigger. Time to take risks. Time to build something beyond survival mode of work and uni.”

Growing up in regional South Australia, Jess forged her own path to university. To fund the move and cover living expenses, she started a business while studying, driven by the belief that when there’s a will, there’s a way. Support from SDF enabled Jess to continue her studies, spending less time working and more time simply being a student.

One of Jess’s favourite quotes is by Franklin D. Roosevelt: “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” It underpins her belief that when young people have the basics taken care of, they’re finally given the space to imagine a future bigger than the circumstances they started in.

It’s a reminder that growth often comes through challenge, and that with the right support, those challenges don’t have to define what’s possible.

This is the impact of educational support. This is Sliding Doors Foundation. This is what Opening Opportunities is all about. Tickets and information: https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0QjY50

$20,300 raised in one afternoon. One room. Real change for young people.

Last Friday, with our VIP hosts Equity & Advisory, we welcomed over 40 guests to their new CBD office.

These events do more than raise funds. They build connections, strengthen partnerships, and inspire more people to support our work.

We’re deeply grateful to Equity & Advisory for their generosity and ongoing support. With over 26 years of experience, they are one of Australia’s leading independent corporate advisory and investment banking firms, and their partnership makes a real difference.

Missed the event but still want to make a difference? Donate now to help us reach more young people who deserve the chance to succeed. Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible: https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0X9Nn0

Interested in hosting a future VIP Series event? Hosts simply provide a venue and invite their network. Sliding Doors Foundation manages the event planning, marketing, and fundraising. We’re looking for business and community partners to help create life-changing opportunities for young people. Comment below or contact [email protected] to learn more.

Rabia Aftab’s story is one of resilience, courage, and rebuilding.

On Friday, 19 June, at Adelaide Oval, Rabia will join us for the live Scholar Q&A at Opening Opportunities 2026, sharing her journey and highlighting the real impact that educational support can have.

Originally from Pakistan, Rabia migrated to Australia as a qualified psychologist but faced significant barriers when her qualifications were not recognised locally. While navigating the requalification process, she also experienced domestic violence, visa insecurity, financial hardship, and significant mental health challenges throughout her journey.

Rabia was Sliding Doors Foundation’s first official scholarship recipient and, since receiving support in 2023, has repeated her Bachelor of Psychological Sciences and is now completing her Master of Counselling. She is passionate about supporting other women, particularly migrant and refugee women, and has been recognised for her advocacy and community leadership.

Reflecting on her journey, Rabia shared that Sliding Doors Foundation helped her “rebuild confidence” in herself and her goals of becoming a psychologist, adding that the support she received “came to ignite life again” in her.

Join us for an afternoon bringing together community, conversation, and support for young people facing barriers to education.

Imagine for a moment you didn’t have access to education. What if your career required it just to begin? Or, if you’re a parent, being unable to financially support your child through their academic journey. For many young people and their families, this is their reality.

Opening Opportunities exists to help change that. On Friday, 19 June, we invite our community of supporters to come together at Adelaide Oval for our annual flagship luncheon.

This year, we want to raise $60,000. This target will enable us to provide five years of tuition support to two students.

This is more than an event. It’s a fun and engaging afternoon bringing people together to connect, network, celebrate community, and support the next generation of young leaders.

Tickets available via Eventbrite: https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0QjZL0

Unable to attend? Support the campaign through a tax-deductible virtual supporter ticket donation: https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0SNvt0

We’re excited to welcome Australian international cricketer Alex Carey as the Guest Speaker for Opening Opportunities 2026 at Adelaide Oval on Friday, 19 June.

Originally from Loxton in the Riverland region of South Australia, Alex originally pursued Australian Rules football before returning to cricket and going on to represent Australia on the international stage, including captaining the Australian ODI team and helping retain the Ashes in England.

Alex’s persistence, leadership, and connection to South Australia make him a fitting guest speaker for an afternoon in support of scholarships for young people facing barriers to education.

Guided by Adelaide media personality Ali Clarke, this year’s program has been designed to feel more engaging and conversational, with a stronger focus on networking, building new connections, and raising funds to support the Foundation’s scholarship programs. The afternoon will feature a live auction, wine wall, and live scholar Q&A conversations highlighting the impact the Foundation and its supporters are creating together.

We’re proud to share the final result from Melbourne Golf Day 2026. Together, we raised $70,912 to support Sliding Doors Foundation scholarships. This will support two students across five years of secondary education, or one student across three years of tertiary education.

This outcome reflects what is possible when a community comes together with a shared belief in reducing barriers, opening pathways, and supporting the long-term development of young people.

A special thank you to our Victorian Chapter: Anthony Mazzoni, Andrew Seddon, Nick Paltoglou and Simon Talbot, for leading the event and delivering an outstanding result.
