💙 Kismet’s Surgery Update 💙

Kismet underwent surgery yesterday, and we’re very happy to report that he is already feeling much more comfortable and is being his wonderfully smoochy self today. 🥰

We think this gorgeous boy knows just how much everyone is doing to help him, and we couldn’t be happier to see him feeling so loved, settled and content. ❤️

A huge thank you to our incredible veterinary team at Holden Hill for providing Kismet with such exceptional care and for looking after him throughout his surgery. We are incredibly grateful for the compassion and dedication you show to our rescue animals.

And, of course, a very special thank you to Kismet’s foster carer, Julie, whose love, commitment and willingness to get him through this surgery made it possible. Foster carers truly are the backbone of rescue, and we are so thankful for everything Julie does for this beautiful boy. 🐾

We’ll continue to keep you updated on Kismet’s recovery. For now, we’re just enjoying those extra-special smooches. 💙🐱

🐾 Help Kismet Get the Dental Care He Desperately Needs 🐾

Kismet has been part of our rescue family since November last year, after he was sadly dumped at our colony in Gawler. We suspect Kismet may have experienced mistreatment before coming into our care, as he has ongoing behavioural challenges that we continue to work patiently and compassionately through with him.

Since joining us, we have worked hard to improve Kismet’s health and wellbeing. We have successfully helped him gain weight from 3kg to 4.58kg and attended multiple veterinary appointments. We’ve also completed bloodwork, which confirmed that Kismet is FIV positive.

Unfortunately, Kismet has also been diagnosed with feline stomatitis, a severe and extremely painful immune-mediated inflammation of the gums and mouth.

Over the past couple of days, Kismet has been struggling to eat his dry food, and his gums have become noticeably red and inflamed. This is concerning that his stomatitis is becoming more severe. He has already undergone courses of antibiotics, but unfortunately, they have not provided the long-term solution he needs.

Yesterday, Kismet attended his free dental assessment with the wonderful Dr Callum, and we now have a treatment plan moving forward. The plan is to retain a couple of his larger front teeth where possible, while removing the remaining affected teeth towards the back of his mouth.

💔 His dental procedure is expected to cost up to $2,000, and we desperately need the help of our amazing community to make this possible.

Kismet is booked in for his dental procedure this Tuesday the 25th at 10:30am, and we are determined to get him the pain relief and quality of life he deserves.

We are a non-profit animal rescue charity run entirely by volunteers, and every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a genuine difference to the animals in our care.

🐾 HAPPY INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY! 🐾

Today, we celebrate the wonderful creatures who have a way of completely stealing our hearts. ❤️🐱

From the confident lap cats to the shy ones hiding quietly in the corner, every cat has their own personality, their own story and their own unique way of showing love.

At Paws Haven, we are incredibly fortunate to care for cats who have come to us for many different reasons. Some have been abandoned, some surrendered, some have never known the safety of a loving home, and others simply needed someone to give them a second chance.

We believe every cat deserves patience, compassion, safety and the opportunity to feel loved. Sometimes that journey takes days, sometimes months, and sometimes much longer but watching a frightened cat finally learn to trust, relax and show their true personality is one of the most rewarding parts of rescue. 🥹❤️

Today, we celebrate every cat in our care, every cat who has found their forever home, and every person who opens their heart and home to a rescue cat.

🐾 Happy International Cat Day from all of us at Paws Haven! 🐾

If you have a rescue cat beside you today, give them an extra cuddle, a gentle scratch and remind them just how loved they are. ❤️
