How do you do the most good, and keep doing it?

Our founder Brett recently joined the Business for Good Network webinar Around the Circle: South Australia’s Circular Economy in Action, hosted by Collab4Good. He spoke about one of the hardest balancing acts for any charity or social enterprise: having impact while staying financially sustainable.

“It’s making it so how we generate income isn’t conflicting with our charitable purpose.”

If we put every bit of energy into impact and ignore sustainability, the good work won’t last. So we’re always looking for ways to fund what we do that also are what we do: rescuing surplus backyard fruit and getting it to people who need it.

We were proud to share the virtual stage with Sharon Ede (Green Industries SA), Kristofer James (Adelaide Electrical Salvage), Jeremy Dossor (Waste Not Site Management), Jeannine Malcolm (Mobius Farms), Daniel Mee (Recycled Plastic Panels) and Sharon Colsey (Spinning Tops). It’s seven stories that make up one connected system, and a different way of thinking about waste.

🍊 A very successful day at the Hawthorn Community Centre kitchen! 🍊

Alka and Mary welcomed our enthusiastic new Preserving members, and Alka shared the finer points of making marmalade. Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a great day!

We had a fantastic turnout of volunteers, and everyone enjoyed themselves.

As usual, we learnt loads, and everyone headed home a more confident cook.

It's been another fruitful year for Fruit Share Adelaide, and we'd love you to help us celebrate!

Our End of Year Picnic is our way of saying thank you to the volunteers, fruit donors and community partners who make our work possible. Every tree harvested and every kilo of fruit shared with people in need happens because of you.

Join us for a relaxed afternoon in the park with inspiring stories, great company and plenty of space for the kids to play, with bike tracks and an adventure playground right nearby.

Entry is free and everyone is welcome! Just bring your own picnic, a blanket or camping chair, and a plate to share if you'd like.

🍎 We're thrilled to share some exciting news! 🍎

Fruit Share Adelaide is one of 100 organisations across Australia receiving $1,000 through Bulk Gives Back, thanks to the generous team at ! 💚

This grant will help us buy essential harvesting equipment for our volunteers: the ladders, secateurs, and other gear that make every backyard harvest safer and more productive.

Since January 2024, our 530+ volunteers have rescued over 44,000kg of fruit that would otherwise have gone to waste, sharing it with more than 100 community organisations across Adelaide. Better equipment means our volunteers can pick more fruit and share more with people who need it. 🍊🍋🍏

Meet Cathy, one of our harvest leaders 💚

"We try and make sure that any food that's growing in people's backyards gets used and sent to people who need it, rather than having it rot."

Cathy joined Fruit Share about a year ago and has been leading harvests for around six months. She was looking for something meaningful that connected her with the community and her love of sustainability, and she's since discovered feijoas along the way 😄

On this harvest Cathy's team rescued 40 kg of mandarins and 38 kg of lemons for charities including puddlejumpers and OzHarvest.

Meet Melanie, one of our wonderful Fruit Share volunteers 🍊🍋

"It's so good that all the fruit is not going to waste, and you get to meet all these lovely volunteers."

On this harvest our team picked 40 kg of mandarins and 38 kg of lemons, 78 kg of fresh backyard fruit headed to local charities including puddlejumpers and OzHarvest instead of falling to the ground.

🥬 Not just fruit this weekend: 325kg of choy sum rescued at Pages Flat!

A huge thank you to the amazing team of 14 volunteers who joined us on Saturday morning to harvest choy sum at Pages Flat.

It was a cool, wet day outside, which made it the perfect morning to be picking inside a warm greenhouse! 🌧️🌿

Grower Long kindly showed Alvin, Tracy, and Bernadette how to lift and trim the plants.

Those skills were then passed on to the rest of the group, so everyone learnt how to sort, shape, and cut the choy sum ready to box up. Special thanks to all three for learning so quickly and sharing what they learnt with the team. 🙌

🥬 The result: 35 boxes, 325 kilos of fresh Asian greens!

Long also generously gave us 8 extra boxes to help carry the harvest. Thank you, Long, for sharing your greens, your greenhouse, and your know-how with us.

The choy sum went fresh to 3 Angels Messages Op-Shop and Woodcroft Morphett Vale Neighbourhood Centre to share with people in our community.
