We had a HUGE day yesterday! πŸ‹πŸŠ

We had volunteers out across three sites, rescuing almost 300kg of fresh fruit that would otherwise have gone to waste:

🍊West Hindmarsh: 10 volunteers picked lemons and oranges from trees growing right in the street β€” huge thanks to the City Of Charles Sturt for supporting this harvest. Together they picked 91kg of lemons and 41kg of oranges, plus an extra 5kg of mandarins from a tree in a nearby front yard while they were in the area.

πŸ‹ North Adelaide: 3 volunteers went back for a second pick from the same tree, harvesting another 103kg of lemons (on top of 116kg picked from it previously β€” what a tree!).

🍊 Underdale: 2 volunteers picked 56kg of tangelos.

This fruit went to OzHarvestSA, CHATS - Community Help And Togetherness, and Puddle Jumpers Incorporated, to be enjoyed by people right across our community.

We loved welcoming so many new volunteers on the day, and a huge shoutout to our fantastic harvest leaders Cecily, Cathy and Amanda, who each led multiple harvests yesterday!

Thank you to everyone who got involved β€” days like this only happen because of this amazing community. πŸ’›

πŸ‹ Lemons PreservedπŸ‹

This month, Fruit Share Adelaide teamed up with the Onkaparinga Food Security Collaborative
for a wonderfully productive afternoon, processing lemons collected from Campbelltown and Mt Barker.

A huge thank you to Alka, Sharon, Michelle, Lyn, Mary and Tina, who preserved an amazing 71 jars of lemons between them! πŸ«™

Well done to everyone involved β€” a great afternoon of community, sustainability, and turning surplus fruit into something deliciously tangy πŸ‹πŸ’›

🍊 Orange Harvest – Morphett Vale🍊

Thursday's golden treasure hunt paid off! Graham and Elizabeth, together with our knowledgeable volunteer Leonz, harvested 18kg of beautiful quality oranges from a generous tree in Morphett Vale! 🌳

All that lovely fruit has now been delivered to the Woodcroft-Morphett Vale Neighbourhood Centre ready to be shared with the local community.

A huge thank you to the tree owner for donating their fruit, and to Leonz for lending a hand today – every harvest makes a difference! πŸ’›

If you have a fruit tree with more than you can use, or would love to volunteer with us, get in touch – Fruit Share Adelaide loves turning backyard abundance into community sharing. πŸŠπŸ™Œ

πŸ‹πŸŠ Fruit Share Harvests – Tea Tree Gully & Mile End πŸŠπŸ‹

Three fantastic community harvests this week! Huge thanks to our generous fruit share sites for opening up their trees to share with everyone.

Tea Tree Gully β€” led by Lisa, with two harvests:
πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ Site 1 (helper: Susan): 146kg of lemons picked!
πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ Site 2 (helper: Melanie): 23kg of lemons picked!

Mile End β€” Mary (Harvest Leader), Lucia, Christine, and Sharon with the help of Nick and Denise harvested 111kg of the Poorman Oranges.

Although they were a challenge to harvest because of the size of the tree everyone worked together for fill all the boxes with awesome fruit to be delivered across Adelaide and Fleurieu Peninsula.

Thank you Nick and Denise for your generosity, and ladies taking on the challenge. The charities had smiles from ear to ear when I carried in the wonderful fruit.

Shared with South Australian Country Women's Assoc. (SACWA), foodonthetableau Food on the Table Hackham Community Centre, OzHarvest OzHarvestSA ozharvestsa the currant shed, TPP - The People’s Platter Inc.

Branch-breaking news! Citrus rules!

Check out this pick! Mary (our harvest leader) weighed this orange, picked at random β€” 530gm 😳

Fruit Share harvest leader Mary took on an amazing 100-year-old Poor Man's Orange tree. Owners Nick and Denise helped Sharon, Christine, and Luca pick over 110kg, with 100kg still left on the tree!

The Poor Man's Orange (also known as the New Zealand grapefruit) is a large, vigorous citrus tree producing a tangy hybrid fruit. It's actually a cross between a pomelo and a mandarin, rather than a true grapefruit or orange.

Cheers to our volunteers, supporters and donors πŸ–οΈ

Helping hands all round! πŸ‘‹ Thank you πŸ™

β€οΈπŸŠπŸŒ³πŸŠπŸ‹ Harvest Leader Mary shares these georgous pics of Fruit Share Adelaide’s recent Lemon harvest in Mount Barker. Co-lead by Lisa and joined by Emma this team collected 24kgs of this hardworking citrus!

Meanwhile Lisa lead a Mandarin harvest at Salisbury East - Thank you to our lovely volunteers Elizabeth, Fleur and Georgina for their help. 24 kg picked and delivered to puddlejumperssa Puddle Jumpers Incorporated 🍊

On the Mandarin trail, Lisa headed to Gawler South leading another great Mandarin harvest with the wonderful volunteer Isobel and her mum Jian. The team collected 82kg mandarin and 9kg lemons, and pruned the large tree. 🌳

Huge thanks to everyone who came out to pick, prune and share the harvest β€” every kilo helps keep good fruit from going to waste and gets it into the hands of those who need it most! 😊🍊🌳
