Who are The Chooks?
The Chooks are four friends who are volunteers raising money for Variety the Children’s Charity through the SA Variety Bash for sick, disadvantaged and special needs children in South Australia. Between them, Kate, Yvonne, Lauren and Lisa have done a total of 27 years of Bashing and raised over $400,ooo for Variety SA with Lisa our only virgin (i.e. hasn’t bashed before). In 2020, the Chooks plan to add to this amount and help even more kids.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Each year, we and hundreds of volunteers just like us raise money through donations, events and sponsorships. In August, we then drive “vintage” cars thousands of kilometres into the Australian wilderness for the “Variety Bash”. The week is the culmination and celebration of a year of hard work and is spent dressed in costume, experiencing what the amazing Australian Outback has to offer.
In 2019 the SA Variety Bash raised $1.44 million (net) for Variety sending the total raised by the Bash to over $39m million since 1989. The costs of participating in the event are borne completely by us. These costs include entry fee, car costs, maintenance and running costs, meals, accommodation and merchandise. Every cent of fundraising and sponsorship money from you is paid to Variety and directly benefits children in need.
