We could not possibly have done it without everyone's support and input from the community. Thank you for letting us taking the credit and we are truely grately to be in this big JMC gym family

Hello everyone. Ellen here. I hope this message finds you well.
Some facilities have been operating in JMC centre since Monday the 11th of Jan. Few things are still sorting out such as swiping the card to the gym while is unsupervised and etc. but gives it some time.
I would like to announce that it is time for page Keep JMC to step down and let reference group and JMC centre management to take over. We have been the media between the council and patrons of JMC in the past few months. We have accomplished a lot as a group, as a little community. The positive outcomes of this:
 Less than a month (including mini lockdown), we have 95 signed hand written petition and 238 signatures on e-petition on change.org
 75% of gym equipment still remain instead of 0 from initial proposal
 Most JMC staffs are still employed by JMC centre, including instructors, creche staffs, front desk and other staffs.
 Creche opens 3 days a week at this stage. (I’m pretty sure it will open more if there is a ‘need’.
 Group fitness classes stay similar with different names plus new ones.
 Court sports are already back.
 Café area is still welcoming everyone to chit chat.
 Most patrons still pay the same rate as they did when they were with YMCA but we have reciprocal right with Aquadome Bluefit if you were unable to attend JMC centre.
 On top of all these, council is working on more activities and events for the community based in JMC centre.
Now everything is nearly in place and I can honestly say Job well done. Let’s move forward and see the positive future. There are reference group to join in, management to talk to and feedback forms to write. My job has done and I thank each one of you for your support, especially Joyce has been beside me the whole time. This not the end. It is just the beginning of our new journey with new JMC. Let’s embrace it.

Sincrely,
Ellen Clare

Currently:
The gym is open from 8 am to 11 am Monday to Saturday supervised and group fitness timetable is as pictured. Unsupervised access offered amongst the remaining opening hours however unlike the Aquadome, JMC is not 24 hours accessible. Please check the time before you come in.
Remember
 we have reciprocal right with Aquadome Bluefit. Whenever you cannot make to JMC, you can access Aquadome.
 First 2 months should be free. Do not pay anything.
 Book a class before you attend
 Check out the gym area at JMC! One of us will post pictures when it’s open.
Some of our old JMC favoriate instructors, staffs and creche staffs are still working for JMC centre. Please don’t be disheartened by some of previous decisions. Our voices have been heard. Come and try then give your honest opinions to the reference group.
The online petition will be closed in a few days. Thank you for everyone’s support. You guys have been great. We also have considered to change the name of the page or even stop here since our job have been done. Please give us some feedbacks.

What are your thoughts about these equipment going? If we are to negotiate, which ones do you think must be kept, and why? Please keep in mind budget, etc. Let us brainstorm here and gather our thoughts that will be later be brought forward in a proper forum. Thank you.
Also, bear in mind we are also talking to human beings that we could reason out with, so a good explanation will help. 😊🤔💪

Spoken with Amy Matthews, Playford Council will be sending out an email today about the Group Fitness timetable. It was supposed to be yesterday but they needed to fix typo errors. Watch out for your emails. 😊♥️

Meeting with Mayor Deputy Peter Rentoulis and Councilors Clint Marsh & David Kerrison.

Topic : Equal Focus on Younger Families (Traditional and Single Parents), Elderly People, People with Disability, Youth, etc. who build Playford Community.

16/12/2020

Summary of December 15, 2020 meeting (2-3:30pm):

Attendees:
* 15 JMC Patrons
* YMCA-JMC's Sam and Adrew
* Councilor Jane Onuzan
* Playford Council : Rachel Emmott (Senior Manager, Community Services) , Amy Matthews (Manager, Community Development) & Ms. Sue

SUMMARY:

* JMC (Group Fitness) will be under Bluefit for six (6) months with possible renewal, once it is assessed to deliver what the community needs.

* Seventy (70%) of the gym equipment will be retained. This is because of the budget limitations Playford Council is facing. Originally, they were planning to remove it altogether. We were under the impression that the decision of which items will be retained was made to cater to our well-loved elderly people.

* Gym will be open on business hours Mondays through Fridays and Saturday mornings.

* Creche/Child-Minding Facilities will run 3x a week, in line with the group fitness classes.

* There will be reciprocal rights with Aquadome.

* No change in membership and monthly fees, NOT pay-as-you-go.

* No plan about the 33 YMCA staff members who will potentially lose their jobs with these changes. We are under the impression that Playford Council were unaware of the number.

* No clear plans about JMC at the moment, but the on-going agreement with Bluefit hopefully will help determine, based on what the community needs. This includes programs for NDIS, youth, and hopefully in the future, young families. The centre will also be connected to The Precint, and will reflect a number of programs run in the said facility.

* Big approval and support on the elderly people, and we are happy for them. Strength for Life and other programs specifically for our senior members will be retained. We are glad they will continue to enjoy the facilities and continue to be part of this community.

Please note that we are JMC patrons who volunteered to echo the voice of our community. We do try our best to represent each and every one of us.

Whilst we understand that there is massive win for some, and not for others, we want to highlight that every party is doing what they think is best.

There will be another meeting around 3rd week of January. If you have concerns, suggestions and ideas, please come forward and attend the meeting.

WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THIS GROUP?

So far, our petition and letter submitted have initiated changes and encouraged more correspondence from the Playford Council, unlike previously.

At one point, they were planning to take away the gym area completely. But now (unofficial info), most of the exercise equipment are staying. As far as we know, only three equipments are to be removed (pull ups, squat bar, and I think bench press). With our petition letter, we were able to save this for the diverse age group of our community.

We can continue attending our well loved group fitness classes with our existing instructors, plus some more new ones. Hurray!

We believe reciprocal rights with Aquadome is underway. This makes it easier for all our patrons.

Child minding, court activities, disability and programs for the elderly people, we are ticking the boxes.

However, these are NOT YET OFFICIAL, and we still have plenty of things to discuss (job loss of JMC staff, pricing, cafe, etc.) What hasn't been made official can still change, unless it's on pen and paper.

Our group is achieving something positive for the JMC Community. Big THANK YOU to our elected Councilors who support us endlessly, and to Playford Council who expressed their openness and flexibility in the name of supporting our community.

So, ATTEND THE JMC COMMUNITY REFERENCE GROUP on Tuesday (2-3:30pm) and have your say. Together, we can make things happen.
