Blitz chess is said to be a young person’s game- but nobody told Edgar Mdinaradze!

Edgar produced an outstanding performance to win the Modbury Chess Club Blitz Championship, racing to an incredible 10 wins from his first 10 games. Only a loss to Colin in the final round denied him a perfect “picket fence” score.

Brad Horne finished a very strong second with 8.5 points while Eryk Paprzycki completed the trifecta for the senior players in third place.

A total of 16 players took part in a great night of fast, exciting chess. Congratulations to Edgar and well done to everyone who competed.

Tonight the Modbury Chess Club welcomed International Master Mithrakanth from India who gave a simultaneous exhibition against 15 players and was undefeated, only drawing 3 games against Colin Cloudsdale, Brad Horne and Manny Schiavone.
A big thank you to IM Mithrakanth for an enjoyable evening.

A big congratulations to our 2026 Club Champion, Josh Pobke! Josh convincingly won the Modbury Chess Club Championship with 8 out of a possible 9 points. His only loss was to Edgar Mdinaradze who finished in 2nd place with 6.5 points. Colin Cloudsdale came 3rd with 6 points. Well done to everyone.

🌟 A fantastic night at the Modbury Chess Club! 🌟
Last Friday, we kicked off with an incredible session on “Opening Principles”. Yesterday, the energy was just as strong as we welcomed a wonderful group of chess enthusiasts through our doors! ♟️
A huge thank you to our former club champion, Brad Horne, who shared his expertise and practical strategies on “Endgames.” After the session, parents and children teamed up to practice those very endgame techniques ! It was amazing to see everyone so focused and having fun! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦✨
We’re absolutely thrilled to see so many friends excited about chess. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, our club is the place to be.🤝
