We were privileged at our last weekly meeting on September 3, to have Yasmin Khan attend as our guest speaker. She spoke passionately to us about her NFP Bangles Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to empowering women of South Asian (Indian, Sri Lakan, Pakistani & Bangladeshi) heritage in Australia and to breaking the cycle of domestic abuse. It provides a safe space, compassionate support, and practical assistance to women experiencing domestic violence, aiming to foster empowerment, skill-building, and community connection.

The Foundation offers a wide range of support services, including: -
- Domestic abuse support during court and police hearings;
- Financial assistance for food and accommodation;
- Social and mental health support; and
- Support groups, classes, and social events to build community
and personal skills.

The Foundation operates voluntarily and without government funding, relying on a committed team of volunteers. They encourage community involvement, allowing individuals to participate in programs, suggest courses, or simply connect with the organization for support
.com.au

It was a very moving story and members asked Yasmin many questions at the end of her presentation. President Wendy thanked Yasmin for making the time to attend our meeting and inform members about her Foundation. President Wendy also presented Yasmin with the pin for her PHF which hadn't been available when her PHF was first presented on our Changeover night. Yasmin expressed her sincere appreciation for this recognition and stated she would wear the PHF pin with pride.

Members attended RARE, Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment, on Saturday 7 February, to assist with container packing, sorting books and other goods. It was a hot but satisfying and worthwhile morning. Thank you to President Cypriano, PE Wendy, PP Eric, PP Lester, new member Eric Rug1amba B. Kagorora for supporting this very worthy endeavour. PP Terry N Camilla, a Rotary Nomad were also in attendance. Overall we certainly made a difference. RARE operates each Thursday and Saturday mornings (except during holidays) from premises at MacArthur Street, Alexandra Hills QLD 4161 and volunteers are always welcome.

Today marks 24 years since The School of St Jude welcomed its first students.

From humble beginnings, St Jude’s continues to provide free, quality education to 1,800 primary and secondary students, alongside ongoing support for graduates through tertiary education.

With this milestone, we want to take a moment to reflect on the determination and belief that has shaped the school over the years, and to thank all of the supporters who have walked this journey with us.

Thank you for helping turn hope into opportunity and for continuing to stand with our students as they build brighter futures.

Yesterday, Thursday 22 January we held our first evening meeting under the meeting trial that has been adopted for the balance of this Rotary year. Our meeting was at 6.30 pm at our normal venue, Souths Sports Club. It was an auspicious occasion with DG Mark Williams attending. It was great to hear from our DG. Another highlight was the induction of our newest and youngest member, Eric Kagorora by DG Mark. Eric is a cultural performer and entertainer and is well versed in Digital marketing and film making. Eric is a great addition to our membership and we look forward to his valuable input to our club. Our meeting was attended by 9 members, 2 partners, DG Mark and Area Governor Craig. It was a great way to start 2026.
