We were privileged at our last weekly meeting on September 3, to have Yasmin Khan attend as our guest speaker. She spoke passionately to us about her NFP Bangles Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to empowering women of South Asian (Indian, Sri Lakan, Pakistani & Bangladeshi) heritage in Australia and to breaking the cycle of domestic abuse. It provides a safe space, compassionate support, and practical assistance to women experiencing domestic violence, aiming to foster empowerment, skill-building, and community connection.
The Foundation offers a wide range of support services, including: -
- Domestic abuse support during court and police hearings;
- Financial assistance for food and accommodation;
- Social and mental health support; and
- Support groups, classes, and social events to build community
and personal skills.
The Foundation operates voluntarily and without government funding, relying on a committed team of volunteers. They encourage community involvement, allowing individuals to participate in programs, suggest courses, or simply connect with the organization for support

It was a very moving story and members asked Yasmin many questions at the end of her presentation. President Wendy thanked Yasmin for making the time to attend our meeting and inform members about her Foundation. President Wendy also presented Yasmin with the pin for her PHF which hadn't been available when her PHF was first presented on our Changeover night. Yasmin expressed her sincere appreciation for this recognition and stated she would wear the PHF pin with pride.
