Thank you to St Patrick’s primary in Cessnock for inviting us to run some Aboriginal art activities for their students today to celebrate NAIDOC week!

We provided young people with an DIY pencil case activity featuring artwork from artist Kerri-Ann Taggart.

The meaning behind her artwork “connecting place to place. Aboriginal people gather, hunt and share culture to move to the next. Aboriginal people follow the seasons and come back to start the cycle again.”

NAIDOC Week will be held from 5-12 July.

The theme for 2026 is ’50 Years of Deadly’. This years theme marks a milestone. It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement. The Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.

A Calendar of events has been developed that includes events being held by various organisations.

Each year, 26 May marks National Sorry Day, acknowledging the Stolen Generations — Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children forcibly removed from their families between the mid-1800s and 1980s — and the tabling of the Bringing them home report in 1997.

National Sorry Day is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about and acknowledge the truth of Australia’s Stolen Generations history and the ongoing, intergenerational impacts caused by past policies of forced removal.

🚗 National road safety week 🚗

Every year, approximately 1200 people are killed and another 40,000+* are seriously injured on Australian roads. Traffic injury is the biggest killer of Australian children under 15 and the second-biggest killer of all Australians aged between 15 and 24.

These numbers are growing every year but are preventable if we choose to Drive So Others Survive!.

National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, partnering road safety organisations and Government. The week highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
