Every year, Christians around the world come together during the Season of Creation to pray and care for our common home.

This year’s theme, Living Water, draws from Ezekiel’s vision of water flowing into barren places and bringing life and renewal.

For AOA, caring for creation is closely connected to caring for our global neighbours. When a changing climate affects water, land and food security, it also affects people’s health and livelihoods.

Across Africa and the Asia-Pacific, our Anglican partners are leading responses grounded in local knowledge and faith.

Over the coming weeks, we will share some of their stories and consider how Ezekiel’s words speak into the realities of our world today.

Devastating floods and landslides have torn through homes, roads and villages. People are missing, many are injured, and families are grieving as search and rescue efforts continue.

We are pleased to share that a new operating theatre at Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza is now open.

The need for surgical care remains immense. In June alone, 624 urgent and elective surgeries were performed.

While AOA did not fund the new theatre, our generous supporters funded salaries for doctors, nurses and other hospital staff through our Christmas Appeal.

This support has made it possible for Al-Ahli’s medical teams to continue providing essential care.

This World Humanitarian Day, CANDO is renewing its call for the protection and support of all people delivering aid to communities in need.

That includes local responders like Rev Kendrick Kesa in the Solomon Islands. Through a daily radio program, he shares practical disaster preparedness information with communities across the country.

This enables faster, better-informed humanitarian responses before, during and after emergencies.

Change began with Irene recognising her worth.

She heard about AOA’s partner, Wise Choices For Life, through her church but was initially reluctant to attend.

When she gave it a chance, she learned practical ways to approach decisions, communication and family relationships.

WCFL training introduced practical skills for decision-making, communicating and rebuilding relationships.

She reconciled with her husband, supported her children’s return to school and began passing what she learned on to other women.

Climate change is not a future threat. It is already affecting our poorest global neighbours and calls us as Christians to respond.

At the Melbourne launch of Called to Care, Rev Tim Costello spoke about the realities faced by families who depend on the land.

Longer droughts and unpredictable rainfall are disrupting harvests and threatening livelihoods.

AOA’s partners are helping people adapt to a changing climate while caring for the land that sustains them. Their work shows how caring for creation also means caring for one another.
