Plogging World
The global movement „Plogging World“ which was initiated by the NGO “Green Heroes Austria” consists of people picking up litter and running at the same time, with the aim to create awareness towards the reduction of waste and a proper waste management. By Plogging, runners are saving the environment, protecting animals from waste and have the benefit to stay fit.
In 2018, Elizabeth Toth, founder of Green Heroes Austria, brought the idea of running and picking up trash to Vienna, with a small group of people she managed to organize the very first Plogging event in Austria. Convinced by the holistic approach of having an impact on our environment, wildlife and on people, she had the vision to join forces with other organizations, cities and communities to create a global event. With the help of her motivated team, Green Heroes Austria has managed to convince people around the globe to join this unique event, “Plogging World” was born.
In 2019 on April 27th, 70 cities and communities worldwide ran together for a cleaner environment. The event started in New Zealand and ended in Tijuana, hundreds of people armed with bags and gloves cleaned the streets, beaches, river banks and woods from garbage and debris.
