Fulbright Austria promotes mutual understanding, cooperation, and knowledge transfer between Austria and the United States by sponsoring educational and cultural exchange programs for individuals and institutions. We fulfill this mission by managing the prestigious Fulbright scholarship program, coordinating a nation-wide teaching assistantship program that places US college graduates in Austrian

secondary schools, and counseling students and institutions of higher education on opportunities to study in the US or Austria as an EducationUSA advising center. We are part of Q21 (http://www.quartier21.at/) in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier. Fulbright Austria is pleased to invite you to an evening full of artistic expression in Washington, DC! On 5 June 2026 at the German-American Heritage Museum, 2019–20 US Fulbright student and award-winning opera singer Alexis Rodda will perform music by early-20th-century Viennese composer Egon Lustgarten—who was a central figure in Alexis’s Fulbright research project—as well as works by Lustgarten’s contemporaries Karl Weigl, Hugo Kauder, and Alma Mahler.

Prior to the performance, you are invited to explore the exhibition “Architect Victor Gruen: Father of the Shopping Mall” to discover more about the Austrian-American immigrant whose urban planning and bold vision left an impact on the US throughout the 20th century.

Light refreshments will also be available, and you’ll have ample time to network with your fellow members of the community.

To launch the Fulbright Austria Alum Chapter Tyrol, the chapter's founders have organized an engaging and interactive event that blends outdoor activities, storytelling, and reflection while also aligning with the celebration of 75 years of the Fulbright Program in Austria. The event will foster community among alums and current program participants, providing an opportunity to explore the scenic beauty of Tyrol while sharing personal experiences.

The day will begin with a ride up the mountain before heading to a typical Tyrolean Almhütte, or Alpine hut/cabin, where attendees will enjoy lunch together in a cozy, informal setting ideal for conversation, networking, and building connections. Attendees will also be invited to share short personal stories about surprising cultural lessons learned, unplanned connections made, and moments that have had a lasting impact on their personal lives and careers. Following lunch, those interested can hike down the mountain together, and others can take the gondola back down.

As part of his Fulbright project, 2025–26 US Fulbright Specialist Paul D. Miller, aka DJ Spooky, put together an installation in the TONSPUR-passage at the MuseumsQuartier Vienna. The installation includes artworks that were inspired by 18- and 19th-century graphics about revolutionary American potential as well as a sound installation that is itself based on the sonification of data from sites focused on data about democracy.
