Donau Soja

Donau Soja The future grows here: European, deforestation-free and non-GMO. One bean, one standard - Europe Soya, powered by Donau Soja Organisation.

- Förderung des Gentechnik-freien Sojaanbaus und der Verarbeitung in der Donauregion für Österreich und Europa – unter dem Markenzeichen Donau Soja;
- Aufbau

von verlässlichen Liefer- und Wertschöpfungsketten durch die Mitgliedsunternehmen, als Beitrag zur europäischen Eiweißversorgung;

- Regionale Wertschöpfung, Gentechnik-Freiheit, Nachhaltigkeit und Rückverfolgbarkeit als wesent¬liche Eck¬pfeiler der Donau Soja (Details dazu: siehe Kriterienkatalog);
- Anbau ausschließlich auf bereits vorhandenen Ackerbau- und Brachflächen im Donauraum, unter ausdrücklichem Ausschluss von Naturschutzgebieten und anderen Schutzzonen;
- Etablierung der Donau Soja und ihrer Produktionskriterien als europaweit anerkannte Qualitätsmarke;
- Beitrag zur Reduktion des CO2-Fußabdrucks bei Sojaprodukten und Fleisch – durch die Förder¬ung europäischer Eiweißträger;
- Systematische Information und Einbindung der Öffentlichkeit sowie aller relevanten Stake¬holder aus Wirt¬schaft, NGOs und Politik;
- Förderung begleitender Forschung im Bereich Wirtschaft und Ökologie zur Erfolgsmessung und Evaluierung des Programms.

🌱A resilient protein system starts with resilient agricultural value chains. 🔗

At the New Food Conference 2026 in Berlin, more than 260 participants from 17 countries discussed how to strengthen the alternative protein sector and move beyond short-term hype. ProVeg International

Our colleague Karin Geppl attended the conference and brought back valuable insights for Donau Soja’s work on European protein value chains.

➡️Several points stood out:
• Farmers need reliable market perspectives, fairer risk-sharing and long-term value-chain partnerships
• Food manufacturers and retailers need reliable supply and a clear view of market demand
• Consumers look for food that is affordable, convenient, nutritious and easy to understand
• The whole value chain needs open exchange to connect agricultural production with market demand

🌍This is where European soya can contribute.
Sustainable, non-GM and traceable soya production can strengthen regional protein value chains and create more options for farmers, processors and food businesses.

Building a sustainable European protein supply requires cooperation across sectors – from the field to the supermarket shelf.

🤝Thank you to ProVeg for bringing the sector together in Berlin.

❓ Europe's food sovereignty and protein autonomy is not a choice – it's a necessity.

At our General Assembly & Networking Event 2026, we asked three voices from across the sector how they are supporting this.

➡️ Matthias Krön (President, Donau Soja), Rene van der Poel (General Manager, ADM Straubing), and Pierre-Marie Aubert (Director, Agriculture and Food Policies Programme, IDDRI) share their perspectives.

🎥 Watch the video to find out what they had to say!

Donau Soja and Europe Soya are coming together. In the future, there will be one shared quality standard: the Europe Soya Standard. It stands for soya from Europe – deforestation-free, non-GM and produced to high standards.

Thank you to our partners for choosing feed certified under the Europe Soya Standard and supporting a safe and European protein supply. 🌱

Hier wächst die Zukunft! 🌱🌍

🌱 Which soya varieties perform best in Bosnia and Herzegovina?

As part of our strategic partnership with the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), Donau Soja recently organised a Donau Soja Field Day in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Together with our members Bimal d.d. and IRUP, we visited two farm locations where we are testing more than 40 varieties in 5 soybean trials. Producers could compare the varieties under this year’s conditions and exchange practical observations from the field.

🟢 Varieties from RWA Raiffeisen Ware Austria AG, the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Maize Institute Zemun Polje, Royal Cosun, Delta Agrar, Agricultural Institute Osijek, Lidea Seeds and AXEREAL are growing side by side on local farms across the region.

🟢 Biological products from our members Biofor System and RALCO are also being evaluated alongside the varieties.

➡️ These trials help us understand what works best in the Danube Region. They provide practical evidence that can support better-informed decisions for the seasons ahead – for producers, partners and the wider European protein supply.

💥Our member Protealis is launching a new tool today:
the interactive Soy Map of Europe! 💥

It brings key information for soya production and marketing together in one place: ⬇️

🗺️ Which soya maturity zone and variety fits your farm
📊 What soya yield and protein content to expect, based on official 2024–2025 trial data
🧮 How profitable soya is in your region, compared to wheat, maize and other crops, using official data including Eurostat
🤝 Where to sell your soya even before you grow it, thanks to an overview of your local network of collectors, traders and processors, including from Donau Soja Organisation

The map is designed to support decisions before the first seed is sown – from choosing a suitable variety to assessing local supply-chain opportunities.

➡️One feature we find especially useful 😉:
the map includes a live overview of Donau Soja members – collectors, traders and processors – as well as nearby food processors. With clickable links, farmers can explore local supply-chain contacts and get in touch directly.
