Emergency Aid, Relief and Rehabilitation: Support for victims of natural as well as man-made disasters
Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Preparedness: Integration of Disaster Risk Management aspects in the education system

Yesterday, HOPE’87 hosted a stakeholder roundtable at the Zurich National Museum on “Equitable Partnerships for Climate Resilience: Community-Led Action in Pakistan and Bangladesh".

The roundtable brought together voices from governance, science, entrepreneurship, and civil society to discuss how community-led approaches can strengthen climate resilience and advance sustainable development.

Participants exchanged perspectives on:

• Climate-resilient infrastructure and adaptation
• Water, WASH, and ecosystem restoration
• Disaster risk reduction and community-based systems
• Social entrepreneurship and innovation
• Inclusive and equitable decision-making

We thank all speakers and contributors:
Natalia Salazar, Shoaib Haider, Rezaul Karim, Dr. Jakob Steiner, Dr. Massamba Thioye, Clémence Betesuku, Zhanar Baishakova, Dr. Afifa Imtiaz, Ahmed Abbas, and Irina Ilieva.

The discussion highlighted that climate resilience is most effective when communities are not just included, but recognized as equal partners in shaping solutions and long-term change.

Last week, our Secretary General, Natalia Salazar, visited Senegal and The Gambia to engage directly with communities and follow the progress of HOPE’87 projects on the ground.
In Senegal, the visit included the École Maternelle Keur Joyce Giraud in Dakar and the Maternité Brigitte Eickhoff in Keur Massar, as well as meaningful exchanges with women leaders in Medina Cherif. These moments highlighted the importance of community-driven approaches in strengthening education, healthcare, and local resilience.
In The Gambia, she was welcomed at Perai Tanda school, where a new building is under construction to expand access to education. The visit also included a review of key initiatives such as the EcoSan project and the RéCouVrer program, contributing to improved sustainability and living conditions.
We extend our sincere thanks to our partners — YouFoundation, WASDA The Gambia — and to our dedicated team in Senegal led by Boubacar Mane, Youssouph Mane, and Anna Gaye for their continued collaboration and impact.
