Ahmed’s motto is: “Always stay positive – no matter what happens.” 💪

He came to Austria from Afghanistan when he was 14. Full of hope, but with no sense of security. Two asylum applications were rejected.

“It was very hard. I thought I didn’t stand a chance,” he recalls.

It was only on his third attempt that he was granted protection. Today, Ahmed lives in the CONCORDIA LenZ Urban shared accommodation. There, he has not only found a home, but also people who believe in him. 🧡

Ahmed now speaks German very well, is working hard on his future and has a clear goal: he wants to become a painter.

How does CONCORDIA measure self-determination?
We look at whether young people are able to live independently after receiving our support: Do they have a secure place to live? An income of their own? People they can rely on?

To this end, CONCORDIA offers social housing programmes, supported shared accommodation, transitional housing, educational guidance, job coaching, psychosocial support and assistance with everyday life. Young people learn, step by step, to take responsibility and forge their own path.

The findings of our small-scale study involving 16 participants in 2025: 69% of the young adults surveyed report that they now lead a self-determined life.🌱

At CONCORDIA, we love to celebrate!
We especially love celebrating the successes of the children who attend our programmes.

This summer, our pre-school class in Kosovo celebrated their graduation with food, dancing and music. 💃🕺

Next school year, they’ll be moving on to primary school.
How exciting!

Thanks to our colleagues in Kosovo for the video. 😊

Lukas is 18 years old and about to graduate. He’s been training at the CONCORDIA Bakery for three years. 🥐

There, he’s not only learning to be a baker, but also found a sense of stability.

As a child, Lukas came to CONCORDIA because his family lacked stability. Step by step, he found his way and was able to discover new challenges and passions in our bakery.

Today, Lukas works independently and knows what he’s capable of.
His goal is clear: He wants to be a baker at CONCORDIA’s Brutaria. Because that’s where he feels at home. 💚

The CONCORDIA Edu-Campus in Ploiești, Romania, combines schooling, vocational training and social support in one place.

The campus comprises the CONCORDIA Primary School, the Transit Centre and the Centre for Personal Development and Vocational Training.

The primary school is aimed at children from marginalised communities and offers an inclusive learning environment.
The Transit Centre offers young people guaranteed accommodation for a fixed period of at least six months, during which they can access on-site counselling services. Everything from psychological support to careers advice is provided.
The Vocational Centre supports teenagers and young adults in developing professional, personal and social skills.
Vocational training is designed to be practice-oriented, following the Austrian model: young people gain practical work experience in areas such as baking and confectionery, culinary arts, the hospitality industry and horticulture.

CONCORDIA’s social enterprises also play an important role in this. In Romania, this includes the CONCORDIA Bakery. There, young people can gain work experience, learn about practical work processes and develop key skills for entering the world of work.

In this way, CONCORDIA creates concrete pathways from education and training towards self-employment.

To celebrate the fact that 100 per cent of the children at the CONCORDIA day centres Tranzit and Ali Ibra have successfully completed the school year, our CONCORDIA team organised a picnic.

Games were played, songs were sung, faces were painted and lots and lots of food was eaten.

At CONCORDIA, we don’t just create better educational opportunities – we also create childhood memories that last a lifetime. 💚

Beatrice has been attending the CONCORDIA Day Center for two years. There, she finds structure, academic support, and space to pursue her interests. 🌱

Step by step, she’s becoming more open. She’s gaining confidence at school and discovering new things she enjoys, like dancing.

She’s gaining more confidence in her abilities as well. She’s particularly interested in math and language.

Her dream is to become a doctor one day.

At home, Beatrice is supported by her mother, Ania, with great strength and care. At the day center, she finds additional support, encouragement, and even more people who believe in her. 💚

100% of the children and teenagers who attend our CONCORDIA Ali Ibra and Tranzit day centers in Kosovo have successfully completed the school year.

This result shows what is possible when children receive consistent support: through academic assistance, structure, help with daily life, and people who believe in them.

Especially for children growing up in poverty, facing exclusion, or living in difficult conditions, completing school is an important step toward a successful future.

We congratulate all the children and teens on this remarkable achievement and thank the local teams who support them day after day. 💚

The last day of school can feel very different for everyone. Some people are happy, some people are sad.
Our fourth graders were one thing above all else this year: Unstoppable.

On the last day before the graduation ceremony, our fourth graders in Romania were able to enjoy the beautiful weather with one last water gun fight.

The end of four years spent together in the same class is always a big step, but this day was certainly a fitting finale.

“Now I can write my homework.”

That’s a sentence children rarely say happily. But for Inna, it’s different.

The 11-year-old is from Bulgaria and had one big wish: a pink school backpack packed to the brim.
Last school year, she often had to go to school without notebooks, pens, or school supplies. That made it nearly impossible for her to participate in class and do her homework.

But this year things turned out differently: Just before school started, Inna finally got her pink backpack!

CONCORDIA also packed it full of everything Inna needs for school.
That’s why Inna can now do her homework without any trouble.
