Investing in Liberia’s youth, building the future!
has taken another important step toward empowering young people with practical skills and greater economic opportunities.

Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung inaugurated the new National Hospitality Training Center at the Business and Domestic Occupational Training Center (BDOTC) in Monrovia, a facility constructed by , funded by the European Union.

The center will provide hands-on training in hospitality management, tourism services, food preparation, accommodation management, and other industry-focused areas, helping equip young Liberians with the skills demanded by today’s labor market.
The initiative reflects a broader partnership between the Government of Liberia, UNIDO, donors and partners to strengthen TVET, improve learning environments, and expand pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.

♻️ Strengthening ’s capacity for sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics

With funding from the Government of Japan and in cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development and Environment, has provided specialized laboratory equipment to the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC).

The new equipment will enable GOEIC laboratories to test plastic materials and sustainable alternatives and verify their compliance with Egyptian standards and technical requirements.

This initiative supports Egypt’s transition towards sustainable production, resource efficiency and a circular economy by strengthening the link between standards, testing capacity and industrial application.

A first step in this renewed engagement was a two-day training workshop in Homs, organized with the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment under the . The programme brought together government representatives and refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians to strengthen skills in the operation, maintenance and safe handling of cooling equipment.

Supported by the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol, the project contributes to the phase-out of ozone-depleting substances while promoting more sustainable cooling technologies and strengthening national capacity.

As Syria continues its recovery, UNIDO remains committed to supporting the country's efforts to restore industrial capabilities, strengthen environmental management systems and build a more sustainable future through international cooperation.

🌍🤝 Advancing sustainable through global cooperation

and the Japan - The Government of Japan are strengthening their partnership to promote inclusive, sustainable industrial development across the Global South.

The UNIDO ITPO Tokyo recently launched the “UNIDO Industrial Cooperation Programme in the Global South through Technology Transfer from Japan”, a new initiative connecting Japanese innovation and expertise with local partners to create lasting impact.

The event brought together representatives from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, seven Japanese companies leading demonstration projects, and representatives from participating Global South countries.

Through these projects, Japanese technologies are being adapted and applied with local business partners in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, and South Africa, supporting the development of sustainable business models, creating opportunities, and driving inclusive economic growth.

As UNIDO continues to foster technology partnerships, the programme demonstrates how innovation and collaboration can deliver mutual benefits for Japan and developing economies worldwide. 🌱
