Women without Borders (WwB) is an international nonprofit organisation that empowers women to change the world since 2001.

WwB focuses on Female Leadership, Capacity Building, Gender Based Violence, Empowering Dialogue, and Preventing Violent Extremism.

Celebrating our MotherSchools & FatherSchools Parenting for Peace graduates in Kempten and Munich: a shared success and true bridge-building between parents, community members, and policy shapers.

Following weeks of open conversations, learning more about parenting and safeguarding, and personal growth, the groups came together for a day of celebration and recognition. Role models in action!

We heard from our local implementing partner Ayla Inan (Sozialdienst muslimischer Frauen Kempten e.V.), Dr. Christiane Nischler-Leibl (Bayerisches Sozialministerium), and Edit Schlaffer, founder of Women without Borders. Parents and teachers shared their own stories, and music filled the room!

But graduation isn't an ending. What they've learned goes home with them, into their families and communities.

As today marks the , we’re reminded of the role models who hold up the pillars of global stability and strengthen our collective social fabric for a more peaceful future. In today’s increasingly volatile world, let’s all do what we can in our corners of the world to uphold and practice respect and kindness 🌏

Last weekend, Women without Borders and our longstanding partner Jahjaga Foundation hosted a Training of the Teachers workshop in Pristina for the sixth generation of MotherSchools in Kosovo. And we applaud our MotherSchools stakeholders in Kosovo and beyond, in every region where we work, for the commitment and passion they bring to making our ‘Peace Starts at Home’ motto a reality!

Five years following the Taliban takeover, the exclusion of Afghan women and girls has hardened into a ‘best practice’ in misogynist evil. Year by year, Afghanistan further consolidates its status as the worst country in the world for women and girls.

Beyond solidarity and empathy, we need to ask ourselves: what can we do so that 15 August 2027 does not mark yet another year of deepening isolation and violence against women?

Any notion of relations with the regime should be contingent on placing women’s rights at the heart of all considerations and dealings.

We are excited for our Parenting for Peace approach to be featured as a replicable model in the new Peace Begins at Home Handbook, written by Gina Miltiadou and published by the Center for Partnership Systems, based in California and founded by the social systems scientist Riane Eisler.

Our MotherSchools and FatherSchools are presented as Model 1 among 'five replicable models proving what works'. The handbook highlights WwB’s locally-led approach: equipping parents to become frontline peacebuilders, strengthening families before crisis, and building networks of resilience that last beyond the programme itself.

With over 7000 MotherSchools and FatherSchools graduates across 17 countries, Parenting for Peace shows how prevention rooted in families can be adapted across cultures and sustained within communities.

A warm congratulations to the graduates of our 'Women Know How' programme in Vienna! These role models came together and created safe spaces built on trust and shared experiences. Together, they broke through the isolation that so often surrounds violence, and reclaimed the confidence it can so often take away.

This marks the second roll-out of the programme in Vienna, delivered in partnership with Verein Nachbarinnen. Thank you to the Sozialministerium Österreich for their continued support, and to the Albertina Museum for hosting the graduation and welcoming the group to tour the "Care Matters" exhibition with curator Dr. Gabriele Schor.

Last month, Women without Borders held our first-ever international Parenting for Peace Academy in Kerala, India!

The Academy was developed to expand our pool of WwB Trainers who deliver MotherSchools Train the Trainer workshops. Running it internationally for the first time allowed us to train 14 local trainers - previous MotherSchools Teachers and stakeholders, community leaders, social workers, and educators - directly within the communities where our MotherSchools in Kerala operate. A key stepping stone to expanding and advancing our long-term commitment to sustainable, locally-led capacity building in security and gender-based peacebuilding.

Next stop: the Training of the Teachers workshop in July, led by our newly certified Academy trainers in Kerala!

Fathers are joining the Parenting for Peace movement in Frankfurt and Marburg!

After 5 years of implementing MotherSchools in Hessen, Women without Borders is proud to launch FatherSchools here for the first time, in partnership with Rumi imPuls e.V.

Our core philosophy? Peace at home is everyone's responsibility. We believe that raising peaceful, resilient children is not a mother's responsibility alone. Fathers are equally powerful role models!

We kicked things off with a Training of the Teachers workshop, preparing FatherSchools trainers to bring the programme to their own communities. Roll-out begins in a few weeks!

The FatherSchools in Hessen are funded through the programme "Hessen - aktiv für Demokratie und gegen Extremismus” (Hessen.de).

On the heels of the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, and at a moment when democratic and legal protections for women and girls are under pressure worldwide, Women without Borders continues its work where it matters most: in communities.

One in three women globally will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Our GBV prevention programme 'Women Know How: Ending Gender-Based Violence' empowers women to break the taboo surrounding violence, question the silence, and challenge the social stigma that allows it to persist.

We recently held a training session ahead of our upcoming roll-out with our Vienna partners, Nachbarinnen, equipping Women Know How Trainers with the tools to lead workshops and carry out the WKH curriculum.

Open House Talks | Consequences of Patriarchy: On the occasion of , Women without Borders hosted two pioneering women’s rights activists, Ambassador Manizha Bakhtari and Dr. Jaleh Lackner-Gohari (Das Iranische Wien), for a conversation on the alarming status of women and girls in Afghanistan, Iran, and beyond.

The evening began with a stark reminder and warning: when authoritarian regimes rise, the consequences of patriarchy follow: the roll-back and dismantling of equality and of hard-won human and women’s rights.

Yet, as our speakers emphasised, now is not the time to despair. This is the time to act, to disrupt, and to reclaim the space every person rightfully deserves. Because every day is a day to celebrate women and all that has been achieved — and to continue the work that still lies ahead.

New year, new roll-out 🚀

At the end of January, we trained 23 Teachers and Notetakers for the upcoming MotherSchools and FatherSchools in Kempten and Munich. Family-based prevention has been at the heart of our work in Bavaria since 2017, and we remain committed to advancing peace where it matters most: in families and local communities.
