🌲 What happens when healthcare clowns step into the forest?

This September, artists from healthcare clowning organisation Sairaalaklovnit 🇫🇮 spent three days in Nuuksio National Park exploring how elements of clowning and play can be brought into more sensitive settings, such as pediatric and youth psychiatric wards.

As part of the project, the training offered space to reconnect and find new inspiration in nature, with the forest becoming a source of calm and grounding. 🍃

🌸 What does meaningful care look like when we see the person before the diagnosis? On World Alzheimer’s Day, we reflect on the role of human connection and interdisciplinary collaboration in supporting people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

This idea helped shape the first project (2020–2023). Working with people living with dementia and children with autism, healthcare clowns across Europe explored how humour and art can open up new ways of connecting. ☀️ Now, the second phase of the project, which will run until 2029, brings this learning into youth psychiatric care. We will develop and test new tools for bringing humour and creativity into these settings, while also exploring how they can support the wellbeing of healthcare professionals working with young people.
