CCI Europe

CCI Europe represents Europe in the CCI global network of childhood cancer parents’ and survivors’ support groups. We are here to make it a reality.

Parents, patients, survivors and patient advocates are united to improve the medical and psychosocial care for children and adolescents with cancer all over Europe, to implement the European Standards of Care to eliminate still existing inequalities to improve the quality of survivorship. We as CCI Europe work together with the medical and psychosocial professionals, academia, researchers, scienti

sts, civil society and private organizations for the same aim, to help children and adolescents with cancer to be cured, with no – or as few as possible – long term health problems / late effects. Every child with cancer deserves a chance, no matter where in Europe they live.

💛 When people think about , they often think the challenges end when treatment does. But not everything goes away when cancer does.

ℹ️ Some live with visible such as hearing loss, mobility challenges, vision impairment, scarring, or other long-term health conditions. But late effects do not define a person's abilities, ambitions, or future.

🌱 There is no single way for a . For some, visible late effects mean needing accommodations or ongoing support. Everybody might be facing different challenges. All experiences are valid.

🎗️When treatment ends, many people assume life goes back to normal. But for many survivors, life after cancer comes with ongoing challenges.

ℹ️ Health problems, learning difficulties, emotional challenges, and other can appear months or years after treatment. In fact, 3 in 4 childhood cancer survivors are affected by late effects during their lifetime.

💛 No two experience in the same way. Some face significant challenges. Others experience fewer long-term effects. Every experience is valid. Understanding life after is the first step towards better support, better care, and better for survivors.

🌟 Day 3 brought the Conference in Glasgow to a close, finishing strong and looking ahead to what’s next!

🗓️ The programme featured a joint session on that meet scientific goals and needs, together with , as well as abstract presentations on the role of patient-reported outcome measures ( ) in clinical trials.

🧩 Sessions also explored the different faces of and highlighted research that listens to survivors and parents, helping to drive progress in childhood cancer.

🔮 The conference closed with a look ahead at what’s next for CCI Europe.

🌟 Day 2 of the Conference in Glasgow brought even more inspiration and collaboration!

🗓️ The programme featured insightful abstract presentations on making at the national level, alongside a joint session on held together with SIOP Europe, the European Society for Paediatric Oncology - SIOPE.

🧩 Interactive workshops focused on , , and , while Spotlight Sessions highlighted key initiatives such as and .

🎉 A “braw” (that’s Scottish for great!) start to the Conference in Glasgow! Once again, the conference is held in partnership with SIOP Europe, the European Society for Paediatric Oncology - SIOPE!

🗓️ The day began with the Survivors’ Session, followed by Childhood Cancer International updates and a special CCI Europe throwback highlighting the past months through a timeline, as well as a look ahead to the year to come. The day also featured Spotlight Sessions highlighting important projects and initiatives such as , , and .

🎈An engaging icebreaker session and the vibrant flag parade made it a truly memorable start!

The first step toward creating IMPACT(-EU) has been taken 💛✨ 💛✨

Last week in Vienna 🇦🇹, hosted by the partner Medizinische Universität Wien, we held the very first Consensus Group Meeting as part of the project, co-funded by the .

A core pillar of this project is Setting Shared Standards for in in Europe.

Bringing together a diverse group of experts in a Consensus Group 🤝including healthcare professionals 👩🏻‍⚕️, patient advocates 💬, and representatives of parent and patient organisations 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 last week we began shaping a shared vision:

🎗️What the European Standards for psychosocial care in should include
🎗️ What they should look like
🎗️ What goals they should serve for children and families affected by

The discussions were rich and inspiring with some great key outcomes:
📣Defining the core elements of the Standards
📣 Exploring their structure
📣 Outlining the initial chapters
📣 Laying a strong foundation to guide the next phases of work

This is just the beginning 🚀 Three additional consensus meetings will follow later this year 💻, continuing the work and strengthening our shared efforts 🌍
