We have been following the case around AI, deepfakes & Collien Fernandes quite closely, and something about it stayed with us.

For those who don’t know: she publicly accused her ex-partner of creating fake profiles in her name over years and spreading deepfake pornographic content.

What happened triggered political discussions in Germany & Austria around digital violence, legal gaps, and the urgent need for stronger protections.

But this is not just about one case. It is about how unprotected people still are online. What really struck us was how differently people reacted to it.

In some circles, especially among women, FLINTA* people, and those working on gender or AI, this was everywhere. There was anger, discussion, solidarity.

In many other conversations, especially with men, it barely came up at all. That gap worries us because topics often only feel urgent when they affect us directly.

At WOMENTOR, we have worked on AI, gender, power & inequality for years. One thing keeps repeating itself in conversations with companies, policymakers & leaders: good intentions are not enough. A lot of inequality lives in blind spots, habits, defensiveness, and things we were never taught to question. Most of us cannot see our own blind spots alone. That is why allyship is not something you simply “are”, it is something you practice. This sometimes starts with uncomfortable conversations, with listening instead of explaining, with noticing defensiveness instead of reacting from it.

That takes reflection, time, and spaces where people can learn without shame, but also without avoiding responsibility.

That is why we are currently exploring something new at WOMENTOR: a mentoring space for men who want to better understand their role in all of this, and actively become part of the solution.

But we do not want to build this blindly. We want to listen first.

Sometimes it’s loud. Sometimes it’s quiet.
But often, it starts with something simple: coming together.

This March, we gathered for International Women’s Day with Who Resists? — a special WOMENTOR x TSH evening bringing together founders, creatives, professionals, mentors, and community members.

Because if we want to challenge systems, rethink structures, and build something different, we can’t do it alone.
