OeAD - Austria’s agency for education and internationalisation

The OeAD is Austria’s agency for education and internationalisation. It has supported and cross-linked people and institutions in education, science, research and culture for 60 years with its future-oriented programmes. As an agency of the Republic of Austria the OeAD thus contributes to inclusive, equal and high-quality education. T

he OeAD’s fields of activity are in Austria, Europe and international priority countries. The OeAD acts as an interface to educational options for all phases of life – from kindergarten and schools to higher education and science, vocational education and training and adult education. The agency's most important instruments are European and international exchange and transnational mobility. Thus, as a national agency, the OeAD is responsible, among other things, for the implementation of Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps in Austria. The OeAD is a non-profit limited liability organisation (GmbH) of the federal government. Its activities are funded by the Republic of Austria, in particular by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) and the Federal Ministry of Labour, Family and Youth (BMAFJ), the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the European Commission.

🌱 What if volunteering could open new horizons for young people growing up in rural areas?

In Romania, this is already taking shape. 🇷🇴

Through its work with European Solidarity Corps Volunteering Teams, Curba de Cultură is creating meaningful opportunities for youth in the small village of Izvoarele and across the Prahova region.

Founded in 2012, the organisation runs open youth centres where young people can learn, connect, and express themselves freely, often for the very first time. These spaces become gateways to confidence, creativity, and participation.

Over the past decade, more than 300 volunteers have contributed to this mission, supporting activities that foster personal growth, inclusion, and community engagement. By combining local action with European programmes like Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps, Curba de Cultură is helping rural youth feel seen, heard, and empowered.

What makes this story powerful is its impact on places often left behind: volunteering becomes a tool not only for individual development, but for strengthening entire communities.

📘 This is one of the inspiring stories featured in the latest SALTO publication on Volunteering Teams.
