tates. The implied hostility, therefore, made no sense. You know how it is on social media: once you look at one post, there’s an assumption that you like posts like that. Before I knew it, similar posts were flooding my feed. From the comments (quite hostile in some cases), the resentment from the Cross Riverians was more robust. According to them, the Akwa Ibomites stole their culture, food, and ways of doing things. When you divide a state into two with the same culture, food, and ways of doing things, does it mean the other state no longer has rights to cultures and practices that were part of their old life? Anyway, though a full (aman isong ayen annang) Akwa Ibomite, as far as I am concerned, the people of Cross River States are still my people. I love all my people and do not want them hating on one another. Hatred is like cancer: the thing about it is it usually starts small - a little pimple there, a small lump there. However, before you know it, it becomes something that kills, destroys and steals joy. I don’t want that for my people. My father used to say: if you cannot help solve a problem, don’t become the town-crier of that problem; this means that you shouldn’t announce a problem if you are not willing to contribute to its solution. That is why I am starting a social media community called . Eyeneka in Akwa Ibom/Cross River language means my sibling (literarily translated, it means my mother’s child). The Akwa Ibomites and Cross Riverians came from the same mother.
