From Vienna to Rome — and beyond! 🇪🇺🤝

One year after Rotarians gathered in Vienna to lay the foundations for a closer network of International Rotary Clubs across Europe, the initiative continues to grow and move forward!

Rotarians from across Europe gathered in Rome for the founding meeting of the International Rotary Clubs Europe (IRCE), strengthening connections and opening new opportunities for cross-border collaboration.

We are especially pleased to see our International Service Chair, Ruth Freedom Pojman, as a driving force behind the establishment and ongoing work of the IRCE Project Committee, building on the foundations laid in Vienna last year.

Three Austrian clubs — Rotary Club Vienna Maria Theresia, Rotary Club Vienna International and Rotary Club Salzburg International — are part of this journey towards stronger connections among International Rotary Clubs across Europe. Their respective presidents, Olha Bosak, Elisabeth M Edhofer and Wolfgang Richter, are also part of this shared commitment.

A heartfelt thank you to Rotary Club Rome International for hosting this important milestone and warmly welcoming everyone to the Eternal City. A special thank you to Past President Rtn Riccardo Ernesto Di Vizio, who was also with us in Vienna last year as this initiative began to take shape.

Vienna is a city of culture — and this year, its cultural institutions are also part of our Charity Tombola. 🎨

We are deeply grateful to several outstanding Viennese museums and cultural institutions for contributing experiences and complimentary admission to our Charity Tombola at the Rotary Thanksgiving Dinner.

Each of these institutions offers a different window into art, history, science and contemporary culture — and together they reflect the extraordinary cultural richness of Vienna.

A heartfelt thank you to all our cultural contributors for helping us turn an evening of Thanksgiving into an evening of generosity, discovery and shared experiences.

Rotary Thanksgiving Charity Gala Dinner 2026 — Five Years of Tradition, A New International Chapter

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Thanksgiving Dinner of Rotary Club Vienna Maria Theresia.

What began five years ago on the initiative of our Past President Vera Maria Strobachova-Budway has grown into one of our Club’s cherished traditions. We are deeply grateful to Vera for creating it — and proud to continue what she started.

This year, with the initiative of our current President Olha Bosak, we are delighted to take this tradition one step further.

For the first time, Rotary Club Vienna Maria Theresia, Rotary Club Vienna International and Rotary Club Salzburg International are joining forces to celebrate Thanksgiving together — bringing three internationally oriented Rotary Clubs in Austria together for one special evening.

❤️ Thanksgiving with a purpose

The net proceeds will support Rotary Sure Start, our humanitarian initiative supporting pregnant women, children and young families in Ukraine.

We are honoured to welcome Johannes Hahn, President of the General Council of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and former European Commissioner.

A productive General Assembly at Rotary Club Vienna Maria Theresia 🇦🇹💜

Yesterday, we held our General Assembly — an important moment to reflect on where our club stands today and, at the same time, look ahead.

President Olha Bosak shared an update on the club’s current position and strategic priorities for the Rotarian year. We were also delighted to welcome two new members, Danielle Dahlstrom and Zoltán Jenei, to our club.

At the same time, we said goodbye to our French member, Anne-Claire Grossias, who has been an extremely active and committed member of our Charity Committee. Thank you so much, dear Anne-Claire, for your dedication and contribution! We are not really saying goodbye and very much look forward to staying in touch. ❤️

Another important moment was the election of the Board for the Rotarian year 2027-2028. We are very pleased to have the next leadership team already taking shape, giving them plenty of time to prepare, develop ideas and plan for the year ahead. We are moving forward with a strong sense of cooperation and new ideas.

And there is already something exciting to look forward to: our Rotary Thanksgiving Dinner on November 26 at the Intercontinental Hotel Vienna, which will be held jointly with Rotary Club Vienna International and Rotary Club Salzburg International.

This is our flagship event of the year — an evening bringing together our Rotary community, friends, guests and supporters for fellowship, inspiring conversations and, of course, our Charity Tombola supporting our Rotary Sure Start project for young children, pregnant women and families in Ukraine.

We warmly invite you to join us and to share the invitation with your friends, colleagues and network. We would love to welcome many familiar faces — and many new ones — around the table. 💙

A wonderful Rotary gathering at Hotel Sacher Vienna. 🇦🇹

Olha Bosak, President of Rotary Club Vienna Maria Theresia, and Elisabeth M Edhofer, President of Rotary Club Vienna International, had the pleasure of welcoming Governor Sabine Unterweger for an inspiring exchange with the boards and members of both clubs.

The first hour was dedicated to a conversation with the club boards, where we shared our projects, experiences and priorities, while Sabine presented her goals and priorities for this Rotary year.

During the lunch that followed, members of both clubs had the opportunity to continue the exchange and connect with one another.

In her remarks, Sabine reminded us that is much more than meetings. She spoke about the importance of exchange, engagement and fellowship, about meaningful projects that create social value and lasting impact, and about the balance between tradition and innovation — preserving what makes Rotary strong while embracing new ideas and new ways of connecting.

Thank you, Sabine, for your time, your inspiring thoughts and the open conversation — and thank you to everyone who contributed to this beautiful gathering.

We are looking forward to a year of cooperation, engagement and impact — together. 💙

🌍 Rotary Without Borders: Connecting Vienna with the World

What does international service look like in practice?

This summer, our International Service Chair Ruth Freedom Pojman carried the Rotary spirit from Vienna across North America and into Europe’s largest country, Ukraine — connecting with fellow Rotarians, exchanging club flags and strengthening the friendships that make international service possible.

🇨🇦 Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada

Ruth met with Rotarians in Yellowknife — the “Diamond Capital of North America” — and experienced first-hand the warm fellowship that connects Rotary clubs across borders.

🇺🇸 Jackson Hole, Wyoming

In the shadow of the Grand Tetons and surrounded by the landscape of the American West, Ruth met with Jared Boldemann, President of the Rotary Club of Jackson Hole. The two clubs exchanged flags and strengthened their international friendship.

🇺🇸 Crystal City-Pentagon Rotary Club, Arlington, Virginia

Ruth also met with members of the Rotary Club of Crystal City-Pentagon, continuing the exchange of ideas, friendship and opportunities for international cooperation.

🇺🇦 Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine

And in Ukraine, Ruth connected with the Rotary Club of Kropyvnytskyi and with the Children’s Home — conversations that bring the realities and needs of communities closer to our Rotary family in Vienna.

These encounters are much more than meetings. They are the foundation of Rotary’s global network of friendship, trust and service.

From Vienna to Canada, the United States and Ukraine, our international connections help us understand where help is needed — and how, together, we can make a greater impact.

Our main charitable focus is Rotary Sure Start, a humanitarian initiative supporting pregnant women, young mothers and children in Ukraine.

The project helps families access:
• safe maternal and child care
• early childhood development support
• trauma-informed specialists and consultations
• early interventions and essential guidance during extremely difficult circumstances

We will be raising funds for Rotary Sure Start at our flagship Rotary Thanksgiving Dinner on November 26 at the InterContinental Vienna.

Rotary Meet Up at PwC Austria

We are delighted to have successfully launched a new initiative within our club: Rotary Meetups — an initiative of our Club President Olha Bosak, created to bring Rotarians closer together by opening the doors to the professional and personal worlds of our members.

Our first Rotary Meet Up took place yesterday at PwC Austria, in the spectacular rooftop location of the DC Tower — the highest building in Austria — offering us impressive views over Vienna.

We are especially grateful to Rudolf Krickl, CEO of PwC Austria and a founding member of Rotary Club Vienna Maria Theresia, for his generous support in bringing this first Meet Up to life and for welcoming us to PwC.

The idea behind Rotary Meetups is simple: to visit places connected to our members who open their doors and invite us into their professional or personal worlds. These may be workplaces, cultural institutions, museums, creative spaces, or other places that reflect the engagement and passions of our fellow Rotarians.

Through these visits, we want to strengthen our connections, exchange ideas, and learn more about each other beyond our regular club meetings.

The evening featured an insightful talk by Barbara Redlein, Partner and Risk Assurance Leader at PwC, who shared perspectives on PwC’s approach to social responsibility and the changing world of work.

At the heart of PwC’s strategy and culture is its purpose: “Build trust in society and solve important problems.” Barbara gave us an inspiring look at how this purpose translates into action, touching on strategic workforce planning, future skills and talent development, inclusion of people with disabilities, transparency and equal pay, as well as the impact of evolving EU regulations.

The presentation was followed by a wonderful get-together with w**e, appetizers and stimulating conversations — all accompanied by a beautiful panoramic view of Vienna.

This first Rotary Meet Up was a wonderful example of an idea becoming reality through collaboration: an initiative launched by our President Olha Bosak, generously supported by Rudolf Krickl, and shared with our club community.

And the best part? The next Rotary Meet Up is already in the making! We look forward to continuing this new tradition and discovering more of the professional and personal worlds of our fellow Rotarians.
