When we strike the Aiki bokken, is our focus on the action of the strike or is our focus on engaging efficient control over our own body?
These two mindsets differ.
A beginner may focus only on the strong action, perhaps until the bokken becomes more familiar.
For some, an externally good, strong looking strike might be the only concern.
Others may have curiosity about subtle detail and qualities of how the body coordinates efficiently to move the bokken.
This may include the finished movement and how to align the body and breath, mindset and intent.
It is a choice to examine movement deeply, searching for what is inherent, naturally felt and organized.
As we age our speed and strength will wane, at which time we may choose to notice wasted motion and excess energy use, finally deferring to efficiency
- or not.
For those interested to study the depth of body awareness, remain sincere.
This is our own personal inquiry, our own personal journey, our choice of study.
So resist insisting, proclaiming, instructing.
Practice with like minds and strive to help each other learn.
