Wohnprojekt Hasendorf

Hello everyone from sunny Wohnprojekt Hasendorf! It's us again, your volunteers (or hobbits) Aleksei and Yuliya 🙂

Everything is going really well here in our Shire, and life has been very active. Of course, we can already feel that the end of our volunteering is getting closer, and we're thinking a lot about how we will live afterwards. We really hope to keep everything we have discovered and all the inspiration we found here, and carry it with us into the next part of our lives.

For Yuliya, two dreams came true over the last month. She drew the plan for the new area of the field and took part in discussing it. We also created a new balcony garden together, and Yuliya was able to plant the flowers herself, choosing plants that attract pollinators and are good for other insects.

We have also decided on our final projects. Together we will make new lids for the compost bins. Aleksei has already built the first prototype, although it turned out to be a bit too heavy.

And these are only some of our news and everyday tasks. We plant, replant, water, prune and dig up plants. We help take care of the youngest children and animals. We cook, clean, repair things, and help wherever we can.

And probably everyone is wondering how the chicks are doing. They're struggling with the heat at the moment, but they've all grown into wonderful adult chickens, although some of them still make surprisingly baby-like sounds. We love them very much.

Hello 👋 It’s Yuliya and Aleksei 🐌🐢

It feels like a lot has changed since the mid-term meeting. It was a really inspiring experience that gave us the opportunity to feel connected with people from all around the world. After the mid-term, we visited Innsbruck to see other volunteers and the mountains. It was super nice 💘

We were away for only a week, but when we came back, the nearby forest was already super green, dandelions had appeared everywhere, and even the baby chickens had become teenagers!

Now the chicks are so big, and for about a week already they’ve been sleeping in the big chicken coop together with the adults.

Also, on the 1st of May, we spent the whole day by the lake with members of our community. The lake is in a nearby village, and we all cycled there together in a really big group! 🚴

We’re enjoying every day here and thinking a lot about our past and future 🧘🏼‍♂️🧘🏻 This place is really good for deep reflection about life.

Time flies so fast, and the last thing you want to do while living close to nature is spend time on social media 😅 Finally, spring has come, and now we have a lot of tasks outside. We’ve already harvested some salad greens and are waiting for other vegetables to grow. We also have baby chickens now! They’re so adorable 🐣

Since our last post, we’ve visited Krems and the UN Office in Vienna, and soon we’re going to a mid-term meeting in Schlierbach again. Soon we’ll have plenty of projects in the garden: we’re going to upgrade the garden hut and organise a couple of resting places.

Hello everyone, we are volunteers in Wohnprojekt Hasendorf for 2025-2026 — Yuliya and Aleksei 🐌🐢

We are here since 1st of October till the end of September. It's unusual and transforming experience for us both. Nearly every day something new happens! We are helping with the different tasks in the house, in the garden and on the local farm.

Since we came we were in the mountains, explored Vienna and visited other places in Austria. We especially liked Steyr, which we learned about thanks to on-arrival training.

However we spend most of the time here in Hasendorf and we really like it. There are beautiful landscapes here, and there is a forest full of wild roe deer and hares nearby. So we like to walk and ride bikes here, and that's enough for us because we are quiet guys who love nature.

Now we are waiting for spring to come so we can work more actively in the garden.
