Worum geht’s?

Do!Lab, Schmiede, subnet und Division for Human-Computer Interaction

Die Förderer der MiniSchmiede:
Stadt Hallein, Land Salzburg

MiniSchmiede war MINT Siegerprojekt 2021.

Techno-Z Salzburg Bauteil V, Jakob-Haringer-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg

TALK:
"The Artwork as a Living System – from Artificial Life to Interactive Art: Creating Human-Computer Interaction Systems"
Since 33 years Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau collaborate to create interactive art installations which combine natural and artificial environments. Their works often use innovative interface designs and human-computer interactions.
In 2022 they presented their big retrospective exhibition called "The Artwork as a Living System", which brings together artworks that display artificial growth, evolution, generative design and A-Life.
In this lecture Christa Sommerer will present selected artworks from the past years as well as most recent projects.

SPEAKER:
Christa Sommerer is an internationally renowned, award winning media artist, researcher and pioneer of interactive art. Together with Laurent Mignonneau she founded the Interface Cultures Department at the University of Art Linz, where she was a professor. Her works were shown in around 400 exhibitions world-wide.

subnetAIR – LYRA ROBINSON | Meet the artist: Wednesday, May 20th | 5 PM

@ HCI – Division for Human-Computer Interaction,
Techno-Z Salzburg Bauteil V, Jakob-Haringer-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg

It’s our pleasure to welcome our Mays subnetAIR, Lyra Robinson! Wednesday, April 20th, she will present her project and talk about her work.

ABOUT
Lyra Robinson is aiming to develop a new body of work exploring the OpenWorm simulation – an open-source computational model of Caenorhabditis elegans, a 1mm nematode worm with exactly 302 neurons.
This microscopic organism has been fundamental to biological research for over 50 years; every synapse mapped, every cell division documented. It is perhaps the most thoroughly known organism on Earth.
Working with OpenWorm’s neural simulation (c302) and physics engine (Sibernetic), she will create speculative modifications to the worm’s body plan and neural architecture – generating impossible worms, alien morphologies, tentacled variations that push against biological constraints.
What happens when we give C. elegans the body plan of hypothetical organisms on Jupiter’s ice moons? What does a worm look like when its neural topology is rewired for environments that don’t exist?

Lyra Robinson (b. 2002) is a transmedia artist whose work spans performance, installation, and video.
Her practice is concerned with the mechanisms through which bodies are read, understood, and made legible in her interactions with surveillance technologies and data gathering. She explores the possibilities for disrupting established knowledge systems to imagine new forms of embodied agency.

subnetTALK: TINA KULT, T(n)C | Wednesday, APR 22ND | 6 PM
@ HCI – Division for Human-Computer Interaction,
Techno-Z Salzburg Bauteil V, Jakob-Haringer-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg

TALK:
"Post-archeological strategies in the practice of T(n)C"
The artist duo T(n)C is on a mission to dissolve the boundaries between the digital and physical worlds. In their talk Tina Kult will describe their practice of recycling, imaginative construction, and storytelling as they treat roadside remnants and discarded fragments like precious traces of potential.
From these materials, they assemble abstract models and translate them into digital objects, forming intricate landscapes of crumbling cities and sunburned paradises. Through a sci-fi lens they examine how crises shape spaces and bodies.

SPEAKER:
T(n)C was founded in 2017 by Agnes Varnai and Tina Kult. They live and work in Vienna and experiment with a wide range of media, including virtual reality, 3D, installation, sculpture and film. By combining the different disciplines, they are researching immersive experiences to connect the digital and physical levels of realities. T(n)C´s aim is to expand the practices of collective storytelling.

subnetAIR - SULME & JAE-NDER FLUID | Meet the artist: Wednesday, APRIL 8th | 5 PM

@ HCI – Division for Human-Computer Interaction,
Techno-Z Salzburg Bauteil V, Jakob-Haringer-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg

It’s our pleasure to welcome our Aprils subnetAIR duo, Yeosulme Kang and Jaehwa Baek (a.k.a. Sulme & Jae-Nder Fluid)! Wednesday, April 8th, they will present their project and talk about their work.

ABOUT
A key aspect of their artistic practice is examining the intersection of two identities—immigrant and q***r. They especially aim to connect this exploration with the concept of “spatiality.” They examine how q***r-immigrant individuals interact with space, how space influences their bodies, and how certain elements of space resonate with them. They manifest their ideas through visual media, time-based media such as moving images, video, and short films, as well as installation works, thereby constructing a visual world.
Recently, they have begun to incorporate a physics-based perspective into our exploration of space. Time and space are inseparable. Thus, they seek to explore how the fluidity of identity over time combines with spatial experience and what this spacetime interaction means to q***r immigrants.

Yeosulme Kang and Jaehwa Baek are a Korean artist duo based in Bremen and Hamburg, Germany. They have explored the fluid and multi-layered nature of social constructs through their complex identities as q***r immigrants.

subnetAIR – SERVANDO BARREIRO | Meet the artist: Wednesday, MARCH 4th | 5 PM

@ HCI – Division for Human-Computer Interaction,
Techno-Z Salzburg Bauteil V, Jakob-Haringer-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg

It’s our pleasure to welcome our first subnetAIR for this year, Servando Barreiro! Wednesday, March 4th, he will present his project and talk about his work.

ABOUT
In Barreiros Project the Neurodiverse multiverse he combines interactive video projection, a sculpture made with color LEDs and sound.
The current topic of exploration is to illustrate how neurodiverse individuals perceive and interact with the world in a different way.

His motivation is to give visibility to neurotypical people,
practices and struggles. Using mediums that are already “challenging”. The goal is to make other people see that there is also beauty and depth beyond what it is in our comfort zone.

Servando Barreiro’s background is in Electronics, Sound and Audiovisual communication. He started his artistic career early on and kept self-educating himself about the subjects of art, science and technology. Back then, he started teaching and organizing lectures about media / technology / electronic art.
Servando has since been living all over the world such as Perú, Stockholm, México and California.
