⭐️⭐️MEMBER INTRODUCTION⭐️⭐️
Each week we will be introducing you to our Hands On! International member museums so that you can get to know who we are a little bit better through them.
🥇국립어린이박물관 - The National Children’s Museum of Korea (NCMK), an affiliated institution of the National Museum Complex Institution of Korea (NMCIK), is a national platform for children’s cultural engagement.
Opened on December 26, 2023, the National Children’s Museum of Korea is the first museum to open within the National Museum Complex in Sejong. The complex is being developed as a unified precinct that will include five distinct national museums - the National Children’s Museum of Korea, the National Urban Architecture Museum, the National Design Museum, the National Digital Heritage Center, and the National Archives Museum -together with an integrated collections storage facility.
As Korea’s first independent national children’s museum, the National Children’s Museum of Korea presents key themes of the complex through exhibitions and educational programs tailored to children’s perspectives. Designed as a cultural space for children and families, the museum aims to inspire creativity and intellectual curiosity in the young generation who will shape the future.
With a total exhibition area of 4,100㎡, the museum features permanent exhibitions, special exhibitions, a mini exhibition, and immersive installation spaces. From sensory exploration in “Little Forest” for infants and toddlers, to creative urban design in “We Live in the City,” and media art experiences such as “Atelier,” each gallery encourages children to observe, experiment, and express themselves freely.
In “Korean Colors Speak,” children discover the beauty and meaning of traditional Korean color names rooted in nature and everyday life. Through language and color, the exhibition helps children understand how words shape the way we see and feel the world, enriching their cultural imagination.
Special exhibitions like “Hey, Little Heart!” invite young visitors to explore emotions and natural phenomena through interactive, full-body experiences. Learning rooms, workshops, and outdoor spaces ‘Modoo- Maru’ further expand opportunities for school groups, and families to engage in creative and imaginative programs.
Guided by the vision of inspiring a new generation to lead the 21st century, the museum nurtures ethical, proactive, and self-directed children who are ready to embrace new challenges.
