Wie viele wunderbare Dinge ist auch Chay Ya durch einen Zufall entstanden. Während einer Trekking- Tour im Himalaya traf unsere Obfrau Sabine den Nepalesen Kamal. Sabine war bestürzt über die Lebensumstände der Menschen in den entlegenen Bergdörfern Nepals und Kamal hegte schon lange den Wunsch seinen Landleuten zu helfen. Was 2007 an einem Küchentisch in Kathmandu als priv
ate Hilfsmaßnahmen begann, ist heute eine etablierte Nichtregierungsorganisation. Nach diesem Motto haben Sabine und Kamal ihr Netzwerk und ihre Reichweite immer weiter ausgebaut, so dass 2011 Chay Ya Austria gegründet werden konnte. Was am Anfang noch kleinere Hilfsprojekte waren, zum Beispiel das Versorgen von Schulen mit Unterrichtsmaterial und Gesundheitscamps mit Hygienetraining, hat sich mittlerweile zu ganzheitlichen, groß angelegten Projekten entwickelt. Dabei steht die Selbstbestimmung der Betroffenen und die Nachhaltigkeit der Programme an erster Stelle. In alle Projekte werden die Menschen vor Ort miteingebunden, wir arbeiten mit lokalen Regierungen sowie Dorfgemeinschaften zusammen, um sicherzustellen, dass ankommt, was auch benötigt wird. So wurden bis jetzt 23 Schulen, 9 Gesundheits- und Geburtenposten, drei Schulgärten, ein Mülltrennungs- und zwei Frauenprojekte in abgelegenen Gebieten erfolgreich auf die Beine gestellt. Das tragische Erdbeben 2015 hat schreckliche Spuren hinterlassen, viele Existenzen waren zerstört. Grundbedürfnisse wie Nahrung, sauberes Wasser und medizinische Versorgung konnten kaum gewährleistet werden. Chay Ya reagierte schnell und konnte die Versorgung von über 3000 Familien sicherstellen. Aus dieser Erfahrung heraus entwickelten sich neue Verantwortungsbereiche für unsere Organisation, zu geplanten Projekten kam nun auch humanitäre Nothilfe dazu. So konnte Chay Ya auch auf die Covid-19-Pandemie und ihre Folgen schnell reagieren. Insgesamt wurden über 200 000 Euro gesammelt, um schnelle, unkomplizierte Hilfe zu leisten. Dank der Unterstützung vieler Menschen ist es uns möglich unsere Arbeit immer weiter zu führen, dabei macht jede*r Einzelne einen Unterschied. Wir bedanken uns bei allen Sponsor*innen und Spender*innen und freuen uns auch in Zukunft auf die Zusammenarbeit- ganz nach unserem Motto: Let’s Do It! Like many wonderful things, Chay Ya was created by chance. During a trekking tour in the Himalayas, our chairwoman Sabine met the Nepalese Kamal. Sabine was dismayed about the living conditions of the people in the remote mountain villages of Nepal and Kamal had long had the desire to help his people. What began as a private relief effort at a kitchen table in Kathmandu in 2007, is today an established non-governmental organization. Chay Ya is Tibetan and means "Let's do it". According to this motto, Sabine and Kamal have continuously expanded their network and reach so that in 2011 Chay Ya Austria was founded. What started out as small aid projects, for example supplying schools with teaching materials and health camps with hygiene training, has now developed into holistic, large-scale projects. The self-determination of the people affected as well as the sustainability of the programs are of utmost importance to us. All projects involve the local population and we work with local governments and village communities to ensure that what is needed will be supplied. So far, 23 schools, 4 disability learning centers, nine health and birthing stations, three school gardens, one waste management facility, and two women's projects in remote areas have been successfully implemented. The tragic earthquake in 2015 left terrible traces, many livelihoods were destroyed. Basic needs like food, clean water, and medical care could hardly be supplied. Chay Ya reacted quickly and was able to ensure the supply for over 3000 families. This experience led to new areas of responsibility for our organization as planned projects were now complemented by humanitarian emergency aid. It is through these established structures that Chay Ya was also able to respond quickly to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. In total, Chay Ya fundraised over 200 000 Euros to provide help efficiently and quickly. Thanks to the support of many people, we are able to continue our work, each individual makes a difference.
