While sitting on my front porch having a stick, I had a thought. What is a good number of Lodge Membership? Now, I am sure today's thought is going to set some Brothers on fire. If it does, good. Because it is causing us to think.

Thursday, while attending Temple, I heard of the days when we had X Hundred members. Some Lodges still do, but rarely have those numbers in a meeting. Sure, people join for their own reasons.

Some use the Blue Lodge as a springboard for other groups. Be it the York Rite, Scottish Rite, Shrine, etc. I get it, we all have our own “Masonic Journey”. I will keep my personal comments about that to myself. Other than to say that if you do not have a firm foundation, you have nothing.

But thinking about my Masonic Ed piece, which I am honestly very proud of. Something came to mind.

Does your Lodge have superfluities? Do you have 10 Brothers who attend, but 100+ on the rolls? While you have those 90 on the rolls, continue to take new petitions for membership? Being excited about all the degree work you have lined up. Why?

At MasonicCon Kansas last year, I heard a Brother say he would rather sit in Lodge with 20 Brothers who were fired up for Masonry than 200 who held a dues card. True statement.

But why are those 180 Brothers missing? Some may
have moved, some may have passed, and the Lodge does not know. Some may have become disconnected because Masonry was not what they felt or thought it really was. There are countless reasons.

I can only speak to a few of these issues. First and foremost, how many of the Brothers in your books are EA or FC and have not yet been raised to a MM? How many of them have it been some time between degrees? I know I am a firm believer that it should take a bit of time. But you know what I mean. Has your Lodge or their mentor reached out to see how they are doing?

For those Brothers that have moved out of your Jurisdiction have you reached out to see if they have connected with a Lodge in the jurisdiction where they reside?
Sometimes, retention and taking care of the Brothers we have is far more important than initiating a new one.

I am saying this because when our friend, whom we made a Brother, knelt and took his obligation that we witnessed, we swore with him….so we owe him.
If there be any fault in that….I am equally guilty MEKS….

I love you and may we govern ourselves accordingly

Maryland Prince Hall Masons are more than men in regalia, we are living testaments to what happens when tradition, service, and vision for the future move as one.

Each time we pour into tomorrow’s leaders, mentor a young mind, or show up for our communities, we are quietly shaping a world that may never know our names, but will always feel our impact.

We understand that our strength comes from knowing where we come from, rooted in the struggle, sacrifice, and unshakable faith of those who laid the foundation for Prince Hall Masonry in Maryland and beyond.

Yet we are just as focused on where we are going, determined to build a future marked by excellence, integrity, and transformative leadership in every jurisdiction we touch.

To my Maryland Prince Hall family and all its jurisdictions: I love who we are, what we stand for, and how we continue to grow.

It is an honor to walk this journey with you, serving, leading, and lifting together-because when Maryland Prince Hall moves with purpose, the world can

Better late than never! Detective Mark DeVito retired in 2002 but never received a retirement badge. Sheriff Barnett made it his mission to make sure he finally got one, 24 years and 31 days later. Mark came in yesterday and met with Sheriff Barnett, Undersheriff Kristopher Spencer and others to finally receive it.

Mark began his career with the Sheriff's Office in October 1976, working at the old jail on the corner of Massey and Coffeen. At the time, Deputy Sheriffs worked on the road and in the jail. He attended basic police school in 1976 followed by corrections school in 1977.

In 1985, he was promoted to Detective, and in 1989, he graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico VA. By the time of his retirement on December 28, 2002, he was Senior Detective, overseeing all other Detectives.

It's been almost 50 years since he started his career and we're happy he finally got that badge! How many people can you name in these old photos?

Resilience
by Ron C. Nischwitz Sr.
2-2-26

You may feel as though your struggle is yours alone...
but no Mason ever walks his path in solitude...
Unseen eyes are upon you...
not in judgment...
but in hope...
There are those who draw strength...
from the simple fact that you have not yielded...
Family who believe in you...
Friends who admire you...
Brothers who stand with you in spirit...
even when they cannot stand beside you in person...
Even strangers...
catching only a glimpse of your resilience...
rise a little taller because you rose first...
You owe it to them...
and to yourself...
to keep pressing forward...
Not because anyone expects flawlessness...
but because your perseverance gives others inspiration to persevere...
Your courage becomes a lantern...
casting Light into places where someone else’s hope is flickering...
In the Lodge...
we learn that one upright stone strengthens the whole Temple...
So it is with you...
Your endurance is not yours alone...
it spills outward...
steadying the hands and hearts...
of those who watch you quietly from the shadows...
So do not give up...
Stand one more time...
Take one more step...
Somewhere...
someone is waiting for the strength you have not yet revealed...
and when you show it...
their own Light will rise...
inspired by the resilience of your fire within.
