MAF has been responding to the Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC since it was declared on 15 May 2026.

The charity has conducted numerous flights to and from Bunia in Ituri Province where some 1,000 cases have been reported, and at least 220 people have died (source: BBC).

MAF has been transporting hazmat suits, a multi-agency crisis team, and evacuating people to Uganda who have been affected by this deadly disease: https://f.mtr.cool/afpsibkiud

Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is conducting evacuation flights in response to the Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

MAF has been serving in the DRC since 1961. We have an established Ebola Management Plan that has been successfully implemented during previous outbreaks. The plan includes strict measures to ensure the safety of both passengers and crew.

The variant of Ebola has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, and MAF plans to continue supporting the region alongside public health and government authorities and our partners. For communities in the isolated areas we serve, outbreaks like these can be frightening—especially without access to healthcare—and we are committed to supporting them as long as it's safe.
