FAO technical mission supports Angola’s efforts in sustainable agriculture and community resilience
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through its Subregional Office for Southern Africa and the regional coordination mechanism of the Drylands Sustainable Landscapes Impact Programme, conducted a technical mission to Angola from 20 to 27 March 2026.
The mission formed part of FAO’s ongoing technical assistance to projects supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Throughout the mission, the delegation reviewed key areas of intervention, such as sustainable agriculture, community resilience, and sustainable aquaculture development. These initiatives, led by Angola’s Ministry of Environment with FAO’s technical support, are designed to promote the sustainable management of natural resources, bolster community resilience, and advance inclusive and sustainable development nationwide.
The mission convened a delegation of international experts who provided strategic, technical, and operational guidance to national institutions and partners.
The mission included meetings with the FAO Representative in Angola, Mr Jean Baptiste Bahama, senior officials from the Ministry of Environment, including the Secretary of State for Environment, H.E. Yuri Santos, as well as partners and stakeholders.
These engagements focused on presenting ongoing initiatives, strengthening coordination and alignment among stakeholders, exploring opportunities for collaboration, and gathering inputs to inform and shape future partnerships.
The mission reaffirmed the shared commitment of all stakeholders to environmental sustainability, community development, and the inclusive transformation of rural areas in Angola.
