The Hope Haven Foundation was established to support all current and future activities and projects I am involved with in Cambodia. Current projects include Sophia House dormitory. Sophia House, or House of Wisdom, is a safe place for university girls to live while they are attending school. It is now in its 3rd year and currently accommodates 9 girls, with another two planning to move in soon. Mo
st of the girls are studying science, engineering, or nursing, along with English or other languages. A new project will be partnering with XP Missions, an anti-trafficking organization. I will be helping with their outreaches to the various slums that they are operating in. Part of my mission will be setting up an English program in both their slum “lighthouses” and children’s homes. We are currently looking into the possibility of using an English curriculum that is based on natural language acquisition using stories, songs, poems, and chants. This curriculum has had great success in other Asian countries and would be used for the first time in Cambodia. In the future, I hope to work in setting up schools in villages in provinces outside of the capital, as well as training and empowering others to also teach English.
