🙋🏻‍♀️On August 12, International 🙋🏻‍♂️Youth Day was celebrated in Kapan, Armenia’s Youth Capital for 2026. In a joint effort with 🇦🇲 the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, and the Kapan Youth Council, UNHCR organised an innovative and engaging activity for young people and adolescents from Syunik: the premiere presentation of the “Between Mountains and Rivers” comic series at the Smart Library of the Kapan Cultural Centre.

Together with 🇺🇳UNHCR, young participants, including refugee and host community boys and girls, explored the essence of comics and their unique ability to convey important themes, ideas and aspirations through a concise and artistic format, enriched with humour, thought-provoking messages and heartfelt emotions. Through creative storytelling, young people explored how ideas and emotions can challenge perceptions, inspire change and bring people closer together.🤝

The Deputy Minister of Education, the Head of the Ministry’s Youth Department, the Deputy Mayor of Kapan, regional and municipal officials, as well as Heads of the Kapan Children’s Centre, World Vision, 🇺🇳UNICEF and UNFPA, joined the event.

The presentation was followed by an interactive workshop and comic-creation contest, with incentive prizes awarded for the best comic creations and active participation in the workshop.✍️

The Deputy Minister and guests were happy for the opportunity to interact with the participants, view the comics they created during the workshop. 🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️The young people enthusiastically presented their comic stories, dreams and aspirations for equality, justice, non-discrimination, friendship and cooperation—values that unite people and help build communities where everyone feels respected, valued, included and empowered.

UNHCR thanks 🇪🇺EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid for supporting this innovative project, which promotes protection, strengthens social cohesion and fosters peaceful coexistence in host communities and beyond.

The Mayor of Talin, Aragatsotn Province, 🇦🇲Armenia, Mr. Tavros Sapeyan, has joined 🇺🇳UNHCR's Cities campaign by signing the Statement of Solidarity .💙

In his statement, Mayor Sapeyan highlighted: "Talin has opened its doors and hearts to refugees, welcoming them with warmth, hospitality, and care. Community members, teachers, doctors, social workers, NGOs, and volunteers work together to support displaced families and help them rebuild their lives. Our goal is to create an environment where refugees can not only find safety and support, but also contribute their skills and talents to the life of our community."

🇺🇳UNHCR Armenia Representative, Ms. Monica Sandri, was pleased to present a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Spartak Avetisyan, Deputy Mayor of Talin, on behalf of Mayor Tavros Sapeyan.

The three-day UNHCR training, conducted in partnership with Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) for ⚽️ grassroots football coaches working with local and refugee boys and girls in host communities in Armenia, provided participants with valuable knowledge and practical skills. Through interactive presentations, case studies and role-play activities, participants strengthened their understanding of refugee protection and the importance of adopting a displacement-sensitive approach in their work with refugee children.

The coaches greatly benefited from the training and engaged in fruitful discussions on the importance of teamwork, meaningful engagement, and friendship in supporting refugee children’s smooth integration and fostering inclusive and cohesive host communities.

“This training was extremely beneficial as it gave the coaches deeper insight into the crucial nuances of working with refugee children, their challenges, hopes and dreams, and the important role that football, a great team sport, can play in their lives as they build their future in a new place,” said Silven, a refugee coach from Côte d'Ivoire who teaches football to children in the remote village of Teghut, Tavush Province, Armenia.

“This three-day event also helped us, as coaches, come together, build closer partnerships and friendships, and strengthen our collaboration in support of refugees,” Tehmina, a coach from Surenavan of Ararat Province, Armenia, added sincerely.

UNHCR Armenia's “Play Together for Integration” project, funded by UNHCR’s global partner, FIFA Foundation, and implemented through the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) and other partner NGOs, aims to support the social integration of refugee children living in host communities in Armenia. The initiative highlights the transformative power of football as a tool for inclusion, social cohesion, and building stronger communities and welcoming environments where every child can thrive.

UNHCR is grateful to the FIFA Foundation, the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), Girls of Armenia Leadership Soccer - GOALS, Armenian National Paralympic Committee, host communities, and refugees, for their collaboration, commitment, and support in the successful implementation of this important project.

🎉Recently, the official opening ceremony of the newly reconstructed and renovated amphitheatre, located in the Talin town park of Aragatsotn Province in Armenia, was held. The project was funded by UNHCR and implemented through its partner organisation, Action Against Hunger.

☀️The event brought together representatives of the Talin Municipality and the Aragatsotn Regional Administration, community residents, officials from UNHCR and Action Against Hunger, community-based organisations and partner NGOs.

💙The renovated amphitheater will serve as a dynamic multifunctional venue for community activities, cultural, and public events, contributing to social cohesion and strengthening community ties in Talin.

🇦🇲In his welcoming address, the Mayor of the Talin Community, Tavros Sapeyan, expressed his gratitude to UNHCR for supporting the reconstruction of the amphitheatre, highlighting its importance for all community residents, including displaced families. He noted that the new amphitheatre would encourage people's greater engagement in arts, culture, and music, while also fostering interaction and community cohesion.

Տեղահանված ընտանիքների սոցիալ-տնտեսական ինտեգրումը, կենսապահովման հնարավորություններն ու փոքր բիզնեսի զարգացման նախաձեռնությունները խթանելու նպատակով, ՄԱԿ ՓԳՀ-ն (UNHCR)՝ իր գործընկեր կազմակերպություն Հայաստանի սոցիալական աշխատողների ասոցիացիա / AASW միջոցով, կազմակերպում է փափուկ հմտությունների, ձեռնարկատիրության և բիզնես պլանավորման դասընթացների շարք՝ Ղարաբաղից տեղահանված և Հայաստանի տարբեր ընդունող համայնքներում բնակվող տեղահանված անձանց համար։

Դասընթացների ընթացքում մասնակիցները ձեռք են բերում, իրենց կարիքներին հարմարեցված, գործնական գիտելիքներ և հմտություններ, որոնք նպաստում են նրանց զբաղվածության նպատակների, ձեռնարկատիրական ձգտումների, ինքնաբավության ու հաջողության հասնելու ջանքերի իրականացմանը։ Մեծահասակների, կանանց և տղամարդկանց, երիտասարդների և տարեցների համար հարմարեցված և մատչելի ուսուցումը հնարավորություն է տալիս զարգացնել ինչպես առօրյա կյանքում, այնպես էլ աշխատաշուկայում անհրաժեշտ կարողությունները։

Դասընթացների թեմաները ներառում են փափուկ հմտությունների զարգացում, աշխատանքի որոնման արդյունավետ մեթոդներ, ինքնակենսագրականի (CV) կազմում, թվային գրագիտություն, հաղորդակցման հմտություններ և մեդիագրագիտություն։ Փորձառու դասընթացավարների և մենթորների աջակցությամբ՝ սեփական բիզնես սկսելու ձգտում ունեցող մասնակիցները ձեռք են բերում կարևոր գիտելիքներ ձեռնարկատիրության և ֆինանսական գրագիտության ոլորտներում՝ բյուջետավորում, մարքեթինգ, հաշվապահական գիտելիք, ինչպես նաև միկրոձեռնարկություն ստեղծելու և կառավարելու իրավական ոլորտներում։

Տեխնիկական գիտելիքներից բացի, դասընթացներն օգնում են մասնակիցներին զարգացնել գործնական կարողություններ, ներշնչում են վստահություն և մոտիվացնում զբաղվածության և ձեռնարկատիրական հնարավորություններ փնտրելու և դրանցում ներգրավվելու համար։

Բիզնես դասընթացների ավարտից հետո մասնակիցները հնարավորություն են ստանում մշակել բիզնես պլաններ՝ հիմնվելով ձեռք բերված գիտելիքների և հմտությունների վրա, որոնք ներկայացվում են գնահատման՝ ՄԱԿ ՓԳՀ-ի կողմից ֆինանսական աջակցության տրամադրման նպատակով՝ աջակցելով մասնակիցներին իրենց գաղափարները վերածել կենսունակ եկամուտ ստեղծող նախաձեռնությունների և ամրապնդել իրենց ինքնաբավությունը։

To promote refugees’ engagement in activities that foster socio-economic inclusion, including livelihood opportunities and small business initiatives, UNHCR, through its partner Հայաստանի սոցիալական աշխատողների ասոցիացիա / AASW, has been organising a series of soft skills, entrepreneurship, and business planning trainings for refugees from Karabakh living in various host communities in Armenia.

Participants are pleased to benefit from practical knowledge and skills tailored to their needs, supporting their employment goals and entrepreneurial aspirations, and efforts to achieve greater self-reliance, and success. Tailored to the needs of adults, women and men, youth, and older persons, the training sessions offer practical learning opportunities that help participants build skills for everyday life and the labour market. Topics include soft skills development, job search and CV writing, digital literacy, communication skills, and media literacy.

Guided by experienced trainers and mentors, refugee participants interested in establishing their own small businesses, gain essential knowledge and skills in business and financial literacy, budgeting, marketing, basic accounting, and the legal aspects of establishing and managing a microenterprise.

Besides technical knowledge, the trainings empower participants with the confidence, motivation, and practical skills needed to access employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Following the completion of the business trainings, participants have the opportunity to develop business plans based on the knowledge and skills they have acquired. These plans are reviewed and assessed for possible endorsement and financial support from UNHCR, helping participants transform their ideas into viable income-generating opportunities and build greater self-reliance.

The initiative is implemented within the framework of UNHCR’s project, “Community Empowerment: Ensuring Comprehensive Social Support and Protection for Displaced Populations,” through AASW, close cooperation with Unified Social Service-Միասնական սոցիալական ծառայություն of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs-🇦🇲ՀՀ աշխատանքի և սոցիալական հարցերի նախարարություն, in several host communities across Armenia, including Abovyan, Hrazdan, Armavir, Sardarapat, Masis, Ashtarak, and Goris.

Talin’s Newly Reconstructed Amphitheater Officially Opens

🎉On July 30, the official opening ceremony of the newly reconstructed and renovated amphitheatre, located in the Talin town park of Aragatsotn Province in Armenia, was held. The project was funded by UNHCR and implemented through its partner organisation, Action Against Hunger.

☀️The event brought together representatives of the Talin Municipality and the Aragatsotn Regional Administration, community residents, officials from UNHCR and Action Against Hunger, as well as representatives of community-based organisations and partner NGOs.

🎭The renovated amphitheater will serve as a dynamic multifunctional venue for community activities, cultural, and public events, contributing to social cohesion and strengthening community ties in Talin.

🇦🇲In his welcoming address, the Mayor of the Talin Community, Tavros Sapeyan, expressed his gratitude to UNHCR for supporting the reconstruction of the amphitheatre, highlighting its importance for all community residents, including displaced families. 👏The amphitheater has truly become one of Talin’s bright and attractive public spaces, offering to residents opportunities of a wide range of outdoor activities - music and dance performances, arts and sports events, film screenings, and theatrical performances. The amphitheater also provides an excellent space for people to meet, socialise, and build new connections. For displaced families in particular, It can serve as an important platform for deeper engagement in community life, forming new friendships, experiencing cultural diversity, and accessing new opportunities.

🇺🇳In her remarks, the UNHCR Representative in Armenia, Ms. Monica Sandri, highly commended the strong partnership between the Talin Municipality, Action Against Hunger, and UNHCR, which made this initiative possible. “I am pleased to see how actively the residents of Talin, including refugees, participate in community events and contribute to creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed, included, and valued,” Ms. Sandri noted.

🎶The opening ceremony was accompanied by a cultural programme, during which the audience enjoyed beautiful and inspiring performances by talented young residents of Talin, including children from kindergarten No. 3, as well as students from the local house of culture and music school. The programme featured traditional folk music performed on national instruments, alongside singing and dance performances.

🇺🇳The official opening of the amphitheater took place in the context of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, a symbolic and significant milestone for forcibly displaced people, UNHCR, and communities around the world. As the cornerstone of international refugee protection, the Convention has safeguarded the rights of millions of refugees, ensuring their protection, safety, and access to a life of dignity.
