Global Shapers Yerevan Hub The Global Shapers Community is a network of young people driving dialogue, action and change. It is an initiative of World Economic Forum.

«Գլոբալ Շեյփերս» երիտասարդական ՀԿ-ն կազմավորվել է որպես «Գլոբալ Շեյփերս Քոմյունիթի» հասարակական նախաձեռնության Երևանյան կենտրոնի իրավահաջորդ և հանդիսանում է «Համաշխարհային Տնտեսական Ֆորում»-ի (World Economic Forum) նախաձեռնությունը: Այս ցանցը գործում է աշխարհի շուրջ 452 քաղաքներում և ունի ավելի քան 5200 անդամներ ողջ աշխարհում:

րի շահերի ընդհանրության և կամավորության հիման վրա գործող, ոչ քաղաքական, անկախ, շահույթ չհետապնդող կազմակերպություն է, որը, գործելով Համաշխարհային Տնտեսական Ֆորումի հովանու ներքո, հնարավորություն է ընձեռում երիտասարդներին մասնակցել տեղական, տարածաշրջանային և գլոբալ գործընթացներին և խթանել հանրային շահերին ուղղված ձեռներեցության զարգացումը:
Կազմակերպության անդամ կարող է դառնալ 20-ից մինչև 30 տարեկան Հայաստանի Հանրապետության, ինչպես նաև օտերկրյա ցանկացած քաղաքացի: Ներկայումս «Գլոբալ Շեյփերս» ՀԿ-ն ունի տասնչորս անդամներ՝ եռանդով և աշխատասիրությամբ տոգորված ակտիվ երիտասարդներ, ովքեր փորձում են համախմբել ջանքերը և միասին լուծել մեր հասարակության առջև ծառացած զանազան խնդիրներ: Այդ ջանքերի արդյունքում արդեն իսկ իրականցվել է ավելի քան 5 խոշոր նախագծեր:

From policy gaps to public health impacts, our recent event explored Yerevan’s most pressing air quality challenges and pathways forward.

Dr. Alen Amirkhanian, Director of the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment, set the stage with a keynote on air quality management in Armenia, presenting key findings from their recent study. He stressed that air pollution remains one of the most serious environmental health challenges both globally and nationally.

The event then moved into a panel discussion featuring Arpine Panoyan, Head of the Atmospheric Policy Department at the Ministry of Environment; Gorik Avetisyan, Deputy Head of the Environment Department at Yerevan Municipality; Gayane Shahnazaryan, Deputy Head of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center at the Ministry of Environment; and Lilit Sahakyan, PhD, Head of the Center for Ecological Neospherics. The discussion was moderated by Hayk Sargsyan, an AUA student and member of the Global Shapers Yerevan Hub.

Panelists discussed actionable steps for each stakeholder group, strategies for fostering citizen engagement, and the role of youth-led initiatives in sustaining public interest in environmental issues, while also emphasizing that while activism plays an important role, it must be coupled with the pursuit of knowledge and professional growth to create lasting change.

The event has been organized in partnership with the Acopian Center for the Environment.

On July 29, we hosted the event “Yerevan’s Air Quality: From Awareness to Action” at the American University of Armenia , in partnership with the Acopian Center for the Environment.

The event brought together representatives from government, science, civil society, and youth to discuss the current challenges and potential solutions concerning Yerevan’s air quality. The panel discussion highlighted current issues, root causes, and actionable solutions — from data-driven monitoring and stronger policy frameworks to local community efforts. 👥

The event also highlighted the importance of youth participation, the need for informed policymaking, and the role of collective action. Following the panel, participants joined an interactive simulation where they took on the roles of different groups to discuss the challenges and come up with solutions to improve Yerevan’s air quality.

We thank all our speakers and participants for their engagement and insight — and extend special thanks to the Acopian Center for the Environment for their partnership and support.

🌿 This is just the beginning. The path to cleaner air in Yerevan requires all of us — and it starts with open dialogue like this, ongoing collaboration, and consistent effort.

🇦🇲 Հուլիսի 29-ին Հայաստանի Ամերիկյան Համալսարանում անցկացրեցինք «Բարելավելով օդի որակը Երևանում․ Իրազեկումից՝ գործողություն» խորագրով միջոցառումը՝ Յակոբեան բնապահպանական կենտրոնի հետ համատեղ։

Միջոցառմանը մասնակցում էին պետական, գիտական, քաղաքացիական ոլորտների ներկայացուցիչներ և երիտասարդներ՝ Երևանի օդի որակի հիմնախնդիրներն ու լուծման ուղիները քննարկելու համար։ Պանելային քննարկման ընթացքում շեշտվեց օդի աղտոտման ներկայիս խնդիրները, դրանց հիմնարար պատճառները և հնարավոր լուծումները՝ տվյալների մոնիթորինգից մինչև քաղաքականական շրջանակներ և տեղական համայնքների ջանքեր։ 👥

Միջոցառումն նաև ընդգծեց երիտասարդության մասնակցության կարևորությունը, տեղեկացված քաղաքականության անհրաժեշտությունը և համատեղ քայլերի դերը։ Պանելից հետո մասնակիցները ներգրավվեցին ինտերակտիվ խաղի մեջ, որտեղ տարբեր խմբերի դերում հանդես գալով՝ քննարկեցին խնդիրները և հանդես եկան առաջարկություններով Երևանի օդի որակը բարելավելու համար։

Շնորհակալություն ենք հայտնում բոլոր բանախոսներին և մասնակիցներին՝ իրենց ներգրավվածության ու ներդրման համար, ինչպես նաև հատուկ շնորհակալություն՝ ՀԱՀ Յակոբեան բնապահպանական կենտրոնին՝ համագործակցության և աջակցության համար։

Meet our final panelist – Gayane Shahnazaryan!

Gayane Shahnazaryan is the Deputy Director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia.

With over two decades of professional experience in environmental monitoring and policy, she oversees national systems for environmental pollution monitoring—including air quality—and the management of environmental data.

Dr. Shahnazaryan represents Armenia in key international platforms, including the Air Convention, UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and various EU and global environmental programs. Her work focuses on air quality assessment systems, policy analysis, and aligning national legislation with EU environmental standards. She actively contributes to initiatives on climate change, environmental assessment, and sustainable development.

Ավելի քան 20 տարվա մասնագիտական փորձով՝ նա համակարգում է շրջակա միջավայրի աղտոտվածության, այդ թվում՝ մթնոլորտային օդի որակի մոնիթորինգի և բնապահպանական տվյալների կառավարման ազգային համակարգերը։

Տիկին Շահնազարյանը Հայաստանը ներկայացնում է միջազգային տարբեր հարթակներում՝ Օդի կոնվենցիա, ՄԱԿ-ի Եվրոպական տնտեսական հանձնաժողով (UNECE), ԵՄ և գլոբալ բնապահպանական ծրագրեր։ Նրա աշխատանքը ներառում է օդի որակի գնահատման համակարգերի զարգացում, քաղաքականության վերլուծություն, ինչպես նաև ազգային օրենսդրության համապատասխանեցում ԵՄ կանոնակարգերին։ Նա ակտիվ մասնակցություն ունի կլիմայի փոփոխության, շրջակա միջավայրի գնահատման և կայուն զարգացման նախաձեռնություններում։

Meet our next panelist – Gorik Avetisyan!

Gorik Avetisyan is the Deputy Head of the Environment Department at Yerevan Municipality.

With a PhD in Geography and over a decade of experience in the environmental field, Dr. Avetisyan has contributed to research, municipal policy, and applied environmental solutions. He has authored more than 20 scientific publications and participated in international capacity-building programs, including a recent training on nature-based urban innovations at Lund University in Sweden.

His career spans academia, public service, and environmental organizations, including roles at the Ministry of Environment, the Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences, and currently, the Yerevan Municipality.

Նրա աշխատանքային փորձը ներառում է պաշտոններ ՀՀ բնապահպանության նախարարությունում, ՀՀ ԳԱԱ Երկրաբանության ինստիտուտում և այժմ՝ Երևանի քաղաքապետարանում, որտեղ նա ներգրավված է քաղաքային բնապահպանական քաղաքականության և ծրագրերի մշակման մեջ։

Dr. Sahakyan is the Director of the Center for Ecological-Noosphere Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

Dr. Sahakyan has led and participated in more than 30 national and international projects (OSCE, NATO, USAID, EU CASE, FP7, H2020, Erasmus MENVIPRO etc). She is an author and co-author of 120 publications, Lecturer and Head of the “Environmental Protection and Nature Management” MSc department of CENS and the International Scientific and Educational center of NAS RA.

Meet our first panelist – Arpine Panoyan.

Arpine Panoyan is the Head of the Atmospheric Policy Department at the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia.

With a background in geography and over a decade of experience in public service, Ms. Panoyan has worked in areas ranging from environmental protection to agricultural and healthcare policy. Since 2024, she is leading the Atmospheric Policy Department, having previously served as Deputy Head of the Department of Specially Protected Nature Areas and Biodiversity at the Ministry of Environment.
