TAP intern Mohamad Rimawi landed an exclusive interview with Armenia’s Ambassador to the U.S. Narek Mkrtchyan for CIVILNET and got him talking about some of the biggest developments shaping Armenia’s future.

Mkrtchyan says there are “no serious obstacles” to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), with construction potentially beginning soon. He also discusses how the project could strengthen economic ties between Armenia and Azerbaijan and create greater incentives for lasting peace.

And that’s not all. With San Francisco-based AI company Firebird planning a $4 billion project in Armenia, Mkrtchyan explains why growing U.S.-Armenia ties in AI could have implications far beyond business, including for Armenia’s security.

Meet our next international intern, Jan Limburski 🎉

Born and raised in Wrocław, Poland, Jan first studied Arabic and Persian before completing an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies at Oxford. He served as one of the Managing Editors of the Oxford Middle East Review, where he put together its latest issue, themed "Reconstruction." His most recent research explored heritage-led urban transformation in modern Uzbekistan.

Jan is no stranger to Armenia. He first studied at YSU back in 2022, and now returns to Yerevan this summer to report with Urbanista / Ուրբանիստա and CivilNet

TAP intern Anton Geisler goes behind the scenes at the Մատենադարան - Matenadaran, home to one of the world’s largest collections of Armenian, Arabic, Persian and many other foreign manuscripts. For Հետք լրատվական | Hetq Media, Anton met with Karin Abelyan, an expert in manuscript restoration, who is currently working on saving a 400-year-old Quran from Persia.

With her colleague Lusine Tumanian, she is helping preserve ancient manuscripts and the heritage of the region, sharing unique Arabic bookmaking practices.

Abelyan’s professional life began at the Damascus National Museum, where she restored Arabic manuscripts until the Syrian civil war disrupted her career and she ultimately chose to move to Armenia.

In his report for CivilNet, TAP intern Nicholas Castillo covers the renaming of three government ministries, starting with The Ministry of High Tech Industry which has been renamed to Ministry of High Tech Industry & Artificial Intelligence as part of a broader push to position Armenia as an emerging hub for AI.

As Castillo writes, Armenia sees AI as "capable of attracting investment to Armenia and wiring the country into a fast-emerging global industry."

The change comes as Armenia opened its first AI data center this summer and continues courting international investment in the sector.

Antonio is currently studying BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics at St Hugh's College, Oxford University. He's a regular contributor to two Oxford student newspapers, covering topics ranging from democratic backsliding in America to the pressures of university internship culture. He also runs his own independent Substack on governance, philosophy, and public policy. ✍️

Armenia’s newest long-distance hiking trail is doing more than connecting mountains and monasteries. It’s connecting people to communities that are often overlooked.

In his latest story, former TAP intern Michele Crestani (Michele) follows the Armenian National Trail through Lori and Tavush, where villages like Odzun and Dzoragyugh are welcoming travelers into their homes. Along the way, he meets residents like Karen Gabrielyan, who returned from the U.S. to transform his family’s old cattle shelter into a guesthouse, hoping tourism can help keep his village alive.

It’s a story about hiking, hospitality, and how sustainable tourism can support rural Armenia, one visitor at a time.

This summer, TAP welcomes its second intern from the University of Oxford (The University of Oxford) to the International Journalism Internship Program. 🇦🇲

Meet Anton Geissler. He studies English Language and Literature at St Catherine’s College, but his path has taken him far beyond the university. He has taught children to sail in Oslo, worked as a carpenter in Svalbard, and translated poetry into Norwegian for the Svalbard Literary Journal.

Now, Armenia is the next chapter. Over the coming eight weeks, Anton will experience its media landscape from inside two of the country’s leading newsrooms, reporting with both CIVILNET and Հետք լրատվական | Hetq Media.
