In 1968, for the first time Armenian archers participated in the championship of the Soviet Union. In 1969 Armenian Archery Federation became a member of the Archery federation of the Soviet Union. Specialists from Russia were invited to Armenia to develop archery and share their experience with Armenian coaches. Due to their work Armenian National team participated in different competitions of th
e Soviet Union, such as Cup and open championships of the Soviet Union. Meanwhile, many clubs were founded in Armenia like Dinamo, Spartak, Ashkhatanq, Burevestnik, Sevan, where many top athletes were trained. The latter participated in above mentioned championships, coming in the highest places. Among them were Budarina Olga, Gavrushina Lyudmila, Khacheryan Mkrtich, Khacheryan Vache, Vasilyan Boris, Yengibaryan Siranush, Grigoryan Arman and Khachikyan Ashot. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1993 the Armenian Archery Federation became a member of World Archery and World Archery Europe. Archers of the federation have participated in many World and European championships demonstrating good results. In 2009, Arshak Petrosyan, was placed the 3rd during the European Grand Prix in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2016 the national head coach Mr Boris Vasilyan again led the team to the medal ceremony and the armenian recurve men team took the third place at the European Grand Prix. Armenian Archery Federation three times has hosted European Grand Prix in participation of many WAE member countries. The year of 2014 is significant in the history of Armenian Archery Federation, as it hosted not only the European Archery Outdoor Championships but also WAE Congress.
